Love to "play" with acrylic paints and especially now that warmer weather is here - it helps the painting process by drying quickly.  This painting developed with no plan or design in mind, I began this by blocking in color.  Then I worked on texture and adding color notes, and then more surface texture!  In the finish, a bold and graphic abstract painting with a color statement.

This mixed-media and acrylic painting is a unique process for me .  I used an image transfer process and then collaged on different textures of paper.  The different pieces of paper were painted with a painting knife, so the painting has a feeling of spontaneity, with some references to reality in the form of the pears!  

Pears are of such beautiful shapes and colors . . . so fun to see this completed.

This painting is planned to be shown (along with many others) in an outdoor garden show, in the San Francisco Bay Area in mid-May.  It's available here now - shipped unmatted, with a protective backing board, wrapped in plastic.  It's painted to the edges so this artwork can be float-framed under glass or plexi.

Another version of a favorite small painting!    Our home is surrounded by agricultural fields and orchards . . .right now the winter wheat planted last fall is turning to an emerald green; the blooming fruit trees are blossoming in that same pink as in the painting above.  And so I have today "Cool Green Fields, version two".  These little acrylic paintings are so much fun to create !  ~ and make a good bright spot on the wall.

The most recent painting "Widepond, version two",  the top photo is on full-sheet sized watercolor paper; the painting is 22" x 30" and matted and framed it will be about 30" x 40". 

I've been looking at watery abstracts lately - my paintings, other artist's paintings and photography.  I absolutely love the subject of water and ponds, from an abstract perspective!  

The first version of "Widepond" has been a good one for me; it sold to a collector and she's been in contact with me again recently.  The image was also the cover for a local magazine! see the link:   "In the News"

What's been interesting to me in the studio this week, while painting version two is the similarities in feeling of the two paintings - - although it's been years in between.  The first one is half-sheet; the second version is a full-sheet size and the larger the painting, the goal is to keep the painting "fresh" even in a larger size.

I began this canvas a while back, then set it aside; it was in oils and I was finishing other paintings in acrylic. But those unfinished paintings continue to call to you!  So I continued with it some more until I was satisfied . . . here is "City Vernacular, version five".

This is in celebration of one of my favorite colors - vermilion orange!   This painting will be shown, along with quite a few others for a group gallery show in the East Bay of the San Francisco Bay Area.  I'm offering it here now, before the show in mid-August, with purchase by credit card.

The painting is on stretched canvas and is 1 1/2" in depth with finished sides; the sides are painted in a neutral gray.  It's wired and ready to hang.  California residents pay 8% in sales tax in addition.

This is one of the few from "Summer in the City" series that I haven't posted.  You can see the thick impasto textured paint in this and the color looks even better in person! I wrapped up the artshow at Jack London Square in Oakland, and have the possibility for another San Francisco Bay Area show!  Lots of art-related things happening at the moment.

I'm painting now, getting ready for a group artshow at the Jack London Square in Oakland at the beginning of June. I like to have these smaller studies and paintings available at (smaller) and affordable prices.  This one is very much a study, the preliminary painting leading up to a larger painting.  The larger painting is on my easel and will be posted next.   I wanted to explore greys and low chroma paintings . . .less color, more pattern, still has a lot of expression.

It's packaged with a white mat, backing board and in a plastic sleeve.  Shipping is included.
