On my easel.....by Kay Wyne

I was able to get a FULL day of colorful painting in yesterday. It was great. I worked on several pieces, and started this palette knife painting. It is very wet and I polished of several tubes of paint since I was applying it very thick, giving it texture. I even used some of Carol and Sharon's left-over paint from their palette. I had a request from daughter Lindsay for a colorful abstract. Lindsay and Wes will probably hang this above the sofa in their cute little apartment in Lakewood after they get married. She liked the contemporary painting, "Color My Trees" which is hanging at Dutch Art Gallery now. Of course no two paintings are the same, but I started using the same concept on this painting as I did with "Color My Trees". I can't wait to work on this one today. All of these colors are bright, intense and happy. I hope that you have a colorful and artful day. Thanks for viewing this blog.

I had a good day at the studio yesterday. I pulled out several paintings that needed to be signed, finished or photographed. I started a new painting (will keep you guessing on that one), and hope to get alot accomplished today. These boots are great looking....I photographed them back in October. I loved the colors and stitching on them. They were new, so they did not have any scuff marks or character marks on them. This painting is ready to hang...no frame needed. This painting is still now finished. I was driving to the studio a last spring, and in the middle of downtown Dallas is Old City Park...a little village of old buildings and some animals. I was driving, minding my own business and this one sheep was just standing there looking at me...staring at me. I pulled over and took some pics of him. (All of the other goats and sheep ignored me.) So the title of this is City Sheep. This is a fun, wacky animal that was so much fun to paint. I look for him every time I drive to the studio. Wide brushstrokes, splashes of color, and thick paint are characteristics of this painting. This red rooster might be giving you the evil eye, he might be very angry, or he could be your everyday run of the mill rooster. I haven't named him yet, so until I figure that out, the title of this piece is Red Rooster. I signed him and I think he is finished. There are layers and layers of color and texture on the canvas. There is a perfume I like wearing. It goes with my body chemistry. I was disappointed to find that Fendi for Women is being discontinued. I went to all my usual haunts to find a bottle but was unable to. I checked on-line and most show "out of stock" and what few I do find, the prices have quadrupled. I hope Fendi brings back the scent; for wishful thinking - I've titled this painting "Scent".

Here's a quick study painting on a 6" x 6" cotton panel. This was a quick one. I like the shadows on this oil painting, and the subject matter. I need to find some real pretty eggs...maybe I will go to Central Market or Whole Foods today. The Painting: Cool colors and a thick paint applied with a palette knife. The subtle softness of the petal of this flower was captured through the thick application of paint pulls giving it a truly dimensional effect.

May Flowers by Kay Wyne

May Flowers

I was able to spend a lot of time in the studio this weekend. Here is a quick 6” x 8” contemporary oil painting on cotton panel. At first try, it was a wiper. Then on second try, it was fun, and it was a keeper. I was able to get the vivid, intense colors that were in the floral arrangement. I used a photograph as my reference for color and shapes….my daughter, Lindsay was given then most beautiful floral arrangement by Sarah Clark when she left Fayetteville, Arkansas last month. My intent was not to duplicate, copy or paint a realistic painting from the arrangement, but to transfer my interpretation of what the flowers look like onto the canvas.
After painting this canvas, I started a large one…and it is coming along, but I have a lot more work to do on it. I can’t wait to get back into the studio today. If you would like to purchase this painting, or any others, please contact me.
