Continuing on my tropical journey to the Florida Keys. Today's post is my impressions of the sea off the coast of southern Florida.
It is hard to find more fun (in the studio), than to dig into a big pile of paint, with your knife, and just go to town. Adding and subtracting values and hues........puts me in the zone every time.
As much as I love creating all this yummy texture, I can only do it for a few days, before I start to crave a little structure and strong composition. Each day I work on this coral reef series, I get a little less abstract and and little more impressionist.

At the beginning of 2017 I started a new series called "Hashtag
Resist". This is the second painting in the series, which explores the
politically charged events that have happened and will continue to
happen in America and around the world since the 2016 election. This has
been an exercise in emotional release surrounding feelings of
powerlessness in regards to world events, and a way for one artist to
visually express elements of what I see on popular social media outlets
and trending hashtags in relation to those events.
30" x 30". This bold abstract painting is gallery wrapped on 1.5" wood
bars. It is accented with gold metallic powders, giving the painting a
shimmering appearance that changes with the light. The sides have been
painted in a rich gray/black micaceous iron oxide paint, for a finished
look that does not need framing. It is wired and ready to hang. The
painting is signed on the side, dated and signed on the back.
