"I've always loved being at the eye of the storm creatively with people that I find exciting and glamorous.
So sometimes I got sidetracked in my career and maybe I would have done more TV or film." - Sandra Bernhard This is a monochromatic painting with lots of chaotic movement that looks like a tornado to me!
There is actually an eye in this painting that just appeared while I was painting! I love surprises!

I played when I painted Textures. It was such fun to put the texture on, and let the metal paints and patinas go in and out of the grooves. I highlighted the work with the pastels and other acrylics. These are my favorite colors---they are so organic in their look. The painting makes me smile. I tend to look at the ground while walking so I don’t trip and fall again. I seem to break bones easily these days! When I did stop one day and look up, the scene was breathtaking! I just stood there and took the time to stare at the leaves of many colors and the light dancing on and through them. In my walk through life I’ve learned that my answers to questions come from above and so I created this painting, “One Answer” to illustrate that there is but one answer to my questions and it is to look up and listen to the Creator of all. Many people respond to this painting because of the contrast of colors and it’s drama. I hope this painting will be a blessing to anyone that takes a moment to look at it and allows it to tell you it’s message. Enjoy!

Lengthening shadows accent the sun’s last rays as they bathe this remote meadow in golden light. As night draws near, a stand of friendly trees offer protection to all the shy daytime residents of this high country world.

The weather can change at a moment’s notice – one minute it is dark and stormy and next the sun is peeking through or glaring hot and clear. In one of the unpredictable sunny moments, I started painting on a white panel, trying to quickly capture the essence of the moment. A white panel gives me the option of using a rubber scraping tool to delicately remove wet paint to indicate white branches and other little accents.
Modeling paste and fabrics were applied to a bare panel with black gesso. Using short paint (less oiley) a dry, lightly loaded brush is gently stroked across the textured surface using the flat surface of the brush, not the tip. If a gentle enough touch is used, the black under-painting will remain in the crevasses of the texture.
As we wander through these ancient canyons, we can’t help to wonder what dramas played out right here on this spot eons ago. Was cave-lady Susie jealous because her man flirted with another woman? Was the bead work on her leather dress last year’s style? Did her child disobey and run over by the rattlesnake den? Did they simply have a different version of the same conflicts and irritations we create today? 24"x24" Oil on Panel/ Available Click HERE for purchase info.
