This is another painting I have completed for the Wyoming Paint Out, a plein air event which has been going on for the past week and a half. Painting on location is full of challenges, but what a fantastic experience to be out in nature, just observing, being quiet, becoming one with the earth.

I painted this on location at Douglas Lake - a wonderful place for fishing, walking and painting! On this particular evening, the lighting was spectacular, lighting up the grasses so that they glowed. I had to paint fast though - the mosquitoes were ravenous!

Forest Fire Abstracts

There was a terrible forest fire in Los Alamos, NM in 2000. What remains today are bare black trees and areas of green regrowth. As a plein air painter I am drawn by the mystery of this burnt forest. I didn't witness the flames but when I painted there recently the flames & smoke appeared on the clayboard.
