Summer Afternoon - abstracted plein air landscape by Colorado artist Kate Dardine

"Summer Afternoon"
6x6" oil on gessoed board

This is another painting I have completed for the Wyoming Paint Out, a plein air event which has been going on for the past week and a half. Painting on location is full of challenges, but what a fantastic experience to be out in nature, just observing, being quiet, becoming one with the earth.

"Medicine Bow" abstract landscape by Colorad artist Kate Dardine

"Medicine Bow Abstract"
6x6 oil on gessoed panel

I spent Sunday up at Medicine Bow National Forest, which is located off I-80 between Laramie and Cheyenne, Wyoming. Had a great time exploring...but it took me a while to get in the groove to paint. I must have wiped off five paintings on a larger board before switching to this little square panel, and putting down my brushes in favor of the palette knife. This painting may be a keeper for the Wyoming Plein Air Paint Out.
