"Crimson Fields" by Karla Nolan, watercolor and ink painting

After a small hiatus, I am back.  Life can get pretty busy sometimes, but I have a bright outlook!  This painting is just a sentimental remembrance of the endless poppy fields which I love so much, what, a trip down memory lane in the fields of Italy or France in the springtime!

"Crimson Fields", 8.25"x11.5" watercolor and ink (unmatted), $150 which includes s/h in continental U.S., contact me at KarlaNolan@gmail.com for more information, Paypal accepted

"Looking From Estes Park Towards Rocky Mountains National Park" by Karla Nolan, unframed palette knife oil painting

Colorado is a state with many altitudes -- the eastern plains runs long and flat, high prairie, gradually climbing to the Mile High City and environs.  Denver is almost exactly a mile above sea level and one can tell this with the thinner air both in breathing in the oxygen and sunning -- you'll have a harder time with the breathing aspect and you'll burn to a crisp much more quickly!  We live right next to the foothills in Fort Collins, just over an hour north of Denver.  Driving up the Big Thompson Canyon to Estes Park, you'll see the fields, meadows and foliage before the great mountain peaks of Rocky Mountain National Park.  This is my (oil painting) take on it.  And there's a lot more to Colorado than just mountains.  More on that later.

"Looking From Estes Park Towards Rocky Mountains National Park", 10"x20"  unframed palette knife oil painting on canvas panel, $395 includes s/h in continental U.S., click Paypal button below or write me at KarlaNolan@gmail.com for more information

"Walk Into the Poppy Fields" by Karla Nolan, palette knife oil painting

I usually don't paint large artworks.  They take forever and try my patience.  However, I do want to paint large paintings more frequently.  Finding the right subject matter can be difficult and planning the whole scene just as trying.  However, I have worked on this painting off and on over a couple of years and am finally reasonably satisfied.  Who doesn't enjoy a walk into an Italian poppy field in Tuscany?

"Walk Into the Poppy Fields", 24"x36" palette knife oil painting on gallery wrapped canvas, $1295 includes s/h in continental U.S., click Paypal button below or write me at KarlaNolan@gmail.com for more information

West from Douglas Lake - abstracted plein air painting in oil by Kate Dardine

West from Douglas Lake
11x14 oil on gessoed board

I painted this on location at Douglas Lake - a wonderful place for fishing, walking and painting! On this particular evening, the lighting was spectacular, lighting up the grasses so that they glowed. I had to paint fast though - the mosquitoes were ravenous!
