Acrylic and Mixed Media on panel Framed in a black wood floater frame. I have painted in Italy several times but I had to use my imagination and a photo to see the poppies in full bloom. I have rich red poppies in my garden, but to see the hillsides covered in them is ecstasy.

I usually don't paint large artworks.  They take forever and try my patience.  However, I do want to paint large paintings more frequently.  Finding the right subject matter can be difficult and planning the whole scene just as trying.  However, I have worked on this painting off and on over a couple of years and am finally reasonably satisfied.  Who doesn't enjoy a walk into an Italian poppy field in Tuscany?

Tuscan Landscape - grouping

I just completed a series of small heavily textured acrylic palette knife mixed media paintings on canvas. Each painting measures 10"x10"x1.5". The movie, Under the Tuscan Sun, was the inspiration for the series. Although I've never traveled to Italy, I tried to capture the warmth of the sun and feeling of the countryside. The paintings are accented with collaged elements...postage stamps, archetectural images and a variety of decorative papers.
