Abstract Italian Landscape Painting, "PEGLIO 23" by Florida Artist Marie Schinman

Reign Collection

PEGLIO 23 was inspired by my inaugural trip to Italy in 2021, on that magical first morning. Standing on a quiet, deserted path, I was captivated by the majestic silhouette of Peglio against a cerulean blue sky. In that moment, I felt my beloved grandmothers beside me, empowering me with their strength and love, affirming that I was exactly where I was meant to be.

Inspired by my most recent trip to Italy.

This original painting is 11"x15" Mixed Media on Archival Paper
It is currently available HERE

Italian Architecture, Mixed Media Fine Art Painting, "IF WALLS COULD TALK- CORTONA" by International Abstract Artist Kimberly Conrad

The "Walls of Italy" is a brand new series inspired by photos I took of the walls and architecture on my recent trip to Italy, more specifically in the town of  Cortona. This painting also represents the oldest part of town where the outer walls of the buildings were dilapidated- and many years/layers were exposed. These buildings were all occupied, and our guide assured us that the insides had been beautifully renovated, and decorated.

This is the third piece in the series. View the first two HERE

Italy,Mixed Media Fine Art Painting "The Secrets of Cortona" by International Abstract Artist Kimberly Conrad

I am so excited to finally be sharing this painting with you.

My favorite part of my recent trip to Italy was the time I spent in the magical town of Cortona. I took hundreds of photos of architecture, especially the WALLS while in Italy.

I have three series of painting planned from the trip and this is the first piece in the mixed media series "The Walls of Italy".

This piece was inspired by a photo I took on a walking tour of Cortona in the oldest part of the town. The outsides of these structures (all occupied) looked as if they were crumbling and many had rusted metal from who knows what exposed, but we were assured that the interiors were beautifully restored and modern!!

Oh the stories and secrets those walls would tell if they could talk!! And yes...the metal grill was actually slightly crooked on the wall and a rusted key was also really on the wall!!

"Vernazza Below the Cinque Terre Trail" by Karla Nolan, palette knife oil painting

This painting isn't for sale.  It's my gift to my husband for his birthday.  He took me to this fabulous place a few years back.  I thought I was prepared.  No intention to hike, no thanks, that's not my thing!  Once we were there, however, it was obvious we had to make a trek on the trail, at least some of it.  One can take trains from town to town, also, but to catch the best view, the dirt trail (and some mud) would be involved.  Unfortunately, I had not planned for this!  I didn't bring any sort of hiking shoe or sneakers, so I did a bit of slipping and sliding.  But I got some excellent photos and ended up having a grand time!  (Especially when it was over, a bright memory!)  Ah, Italia!

"Viewing Vernazza From the Cinque Terre Trail" by Karla Nolan, watercolor and ink painting

Hiking along the Cinque Terre trail in Italy was quite the adventure, especially since I had not anticipated this activity and did not bring the proper footwear.  I'm not much of a hiker but I do enjoy a good view. I surely got one from here!

"Poppies Among the Greek Ruins at Paestum" by Karla Nolan, palette knife oil painting

Several years ago we travelled to Italy and visited a more southern region.  It took a while to reach Paestum, but the drive was worthwhile, as we were able to walk around ancient Greek ruins, still standing to a degree.  And, yes, of course, there were the wild red poppies!  What a delight!

Italian Landscape Painting, Red Doorway Italy, "A Brisk Walk" by Georgia Artist Deanna Jaugstetter

Sometimes I envy the Italian lifestyle as opposed to the sedentary lifestyle of some United States residents! While in Europe, I tend to have more energy and I feel that it must come from the fact that I walk everywhere when visiting! The original watercolor painting titled " A Brisk Walk " is my way of expressing this exhilarating feeling one gets in a beautiful city full of inspiring architecture and meaningful history!

"Poppy Field Near Trevi, Italy" by Karla Nolan, original watercolor and ink painting on paper

From the moon to the poppy fields again (my last blog was a lunar blog) -- we were near this field but above it when we first saw it, standing near a wall in Trevi, Italy.  Visiting in May, the delightful red flowers were everywhere and we drove all around so I could get some reference photos.  Luckily we were successful in navigating to this field, so here you go, some more poppies from me to you!

"Poppies at Paestum (Italy)" by Karla Nolan, original watercolor and ink painting

Located in the southern part of Italy are ancient Greek ruins and, what else, poppies growing near them!  They are a marvelous site to see, the combination of blue skies, cypress, the actual Greek ruins surrounded by field stone walls, and the bright red poppies, seemingly unfazed by history long gone by.  Visit this extraordinary site if you can, you won't regret it.
