"Southwest Panorama in Reds" by Karla Nolan, watercolor on paper

There is something about the colors of the cliffs, hills, mesas, and mountains in the Southwest United States that is so intriguing to me.  There is no one shade of red involved, instead there are underlying purples, oranges, yellows, browns.  Usually there is a bright blue sky with incoming storms fully in view when observing the clouds.  I love it here in Colorado and also seeing the view in Utah, New Mexico and Arizona.

"Carmine Hills" by Karla Nolan, original watercolor painting on paper

You know, sometimes simpler just seems to be better and in the case of this watercolor painting, it seems to work!  Almost pure color, although at a close up view you'll see different hues and shades of reds.  Ah, I just love color!

"Poppy Field Near Aveyron, France" by Karla Nolan, matted watercolor painting

I've been flipping between watercolor painting and painting onto glass lately.  It's not that I can't make up my mind, I rather enjoy the variety.  I know some folks say "stick with one genre or medium" but that's simply not in my nature.  It's educational, at least for me, to go back and forth and even sparks my imagination and experimentation!  Yes, it's yet another poppy painting, and yes, it's another painting of France, but, hey, why not?  Can you have too much of a happy flower or lovely country (along with Italy, of course, and, while I'm at it, Israel, England, Wales, Ireland....need I say more?)

"Green Hills of Ireland", 9.5"x13" original watercolor painting by Karla Nolan

There are so many shades and hues of green in Ireland, I don't believe that one could name them all.  Accompanied by the grey clouds overhead, there are subtle, rolling hills, walls of stone separating lots, quaint old houses surrounded by bushes and trees, wildflowers growing in the green (!) meadows.  What glorious memories I have!

"Gold in Those Red Hills", original watercolor painting by Karla Nolan

A little more experimentation on the old watercolor paper!  I really enjoyed painting this one -- "gold in them thar hills" sounds a bit tacky but -- it just reminded me so much of the southwestern part of the U.S., part Colorado, Utah, Arizona and so on.  You just never know what lies in the red rocks, hills, cliffs, with the turquoise skies overhead.  To me these are the quintessential Western colors of our terrain out here.  Happy, happy!

"Harbinger" acrylic by Oklahoma Equine Artist Jonelle T. McCoy

"Harbinger"

A stallion stands on a plateau with his companion mare looking out over a large late in the day vista view, a strong breeze blows a change in the wind, for what he does not know, but could it be something better? Called "Harbinger", I feel like he does, I'm in my late afternoon years, and I feel a change coming, and like him, I hope it's good. This painting hangs in my home where it fits perfectly, so at this time only prints are available here: http://jonelle-t-mccoy.artistwebsites.com/featured/harbinger-jonelle-t-mccoy.html
