Ocean waves and sandy beaches - Lidija Ivanek SiLa
What began as a quick sketch, it ended up as a finished painting in watercolour and pen.
Near the Clonakilty, Co. Cork, Ireland, there are three beaches and they were inspiration for my painting.

"Green Hills of Ireland", 9.5"x13" original watercolor painting by Karla Nolan
There
are so many shades and hues of green in Ireland, I don't believe that
one could name them all. Accompanied by the grey clouds overhead, there
are subtle, rolling hills, walls of stone separating lots, quaint old
houses surrounded by bushes and trees, wildflowers growing in the green
(!) meadows. What glorious memories I have!

"Sunny Day Cliffs of Moher" by Karla Nolan, original watercolor and ink miniature painting matted to 5"x7"
The Cliffs of Moher are among Ireland's most famous sights. Traveling up the coast to see them, they were was so covered in fog we couldn't get into the parking lot (we couldn't really see anything!). The next day we attempted again to visit the cliffs and this time succeeded in our quest. There wasn't as much sun that day as there is denoted in the above watercolor painting, but it was an exhilarating experience being so close to the cliffs and the water. Highly recommended!

"Ireland's Rocky Coastline" by Karla Nolan, palette knife oil painting
This
scene is near Dingle, Slea Head, in Ireland. It is a larger Irish
painting than I've done in a while and it took a bit of forever to paint
it -- I went back many, many times to get the shadows and rocks done to
my satisfaction. I'm happy with the results, all it needs now is a
good frame and a good home. Don't forget, St. Patrick's Day is next
month, we're all Irish for a day!

"Irish Fuchsia" by Karla Nolan, framed 12"x9" palette knife and brush oil painting
Did you know that the fuchsia is the national flower of Ireland? 'Tis! We were there a long time ago with our daughters and I actually saw fuchsias growing wild along an old stone wall. It was an amazing sight, the sort of thing you'd never expect to see! This particular bunch comes all framed up and ready to hang on your wall.

"Whilst in Lismore, Ireland", by Karla Nolan, palette knife, brush, oil painting
Sometimes titling artwork can actually be fun, rather than frustrating or tedious. Our family travelled some time ago to Ireland, a most delightful country, and we visited Lismore briefly. I could not resist this title and hope you, too, enjoy the small bit of whimsy from a Yankee who really never uses the word "whilst"!
"Whilst in Lismore, Ireland" 12"x16" palette knife and brush oil painting on gessoed board, $215, unframed, s/h to be determined at time of sale. Write me at KarlaNolan@gmail.com for more information or to buy through Paypal invoice. Thanks for looking!
I have set up a second website, Paintings On Glass, to showcase my paintings on glass. There is a piece in progress as I type with sailboats. That's a true challenge, showing proper structure and making the water look good. Be sure to check it out, along with my new blogspot, listed below.

"Cliffs at Dingle, Ireland", by Karla Nolan, palette knife, brush, oil painting, gessoed board
A bit more island hopping, from Hawaii to Ireland...I know that I'm repeating myself here, I'm prone to doing that, but there are hundreds of shades of the color green in Ireland! Even in the ocean! These cliffs were precipitous -- you don't want to lose your footing here -- but they were also so glorious -- did I catch them correctly with my painting? I certainly hope so!

Well, lads and lassies, here is Slea Head in Ireland. We travelled there a few years back and I have been rummaging through many of my old reference photos to inspire me -- and inspire me they did! Green, green, and more green, that's Ireland! Right by the ocean, rocks jutting up -- a delightful place to be!!!!

"Emerald Isle", by Karla Nolan, miniature, palette knife, brush, oil painting, linen panel
Ireland truly is the land of the greens shades, hues, whatever! They are absolutely unbelievable and I firmly believe that you must travel there to believe it! We traveled there in the early summer and the skies tended to be pale blue with traveling clouds, most unlike where we live, Colorado. The lilt of the English there, then the Gaelic a bit further north, was so enjoyable to hear. A traveler's must see place.
"Emerald Isle", 4"x6" palette knife/brush oil painting on linen panel, $36 includes s/h in U.S., contact me at KarlaNolan@gmail.com and I'll mail you a Paypal invoice -- s/h in other locations to be determined at time of sale, of course.
