"Poppies Times Eight"", original 5"x7" watercolor and ink painting, matted and framed as shown, $75, contact EsScentuals at 970-484-7862 for more information

"Papaveri Trio" by Karla Nolan, matted watercolor and ink painting

Yup, still at it with the watercolor and ink paintings.  My neck hates me, though.  I am more accustomed to standing, hopefully straight, and painting with a palette knife on canvas.  I just have been enjoying this media, remembering my dad's passion for painting with watercolor and ink, not the same subject matter, but the memories are great.  And you know me, I can't get enough of bright red poppies!

"Papaveri Trio", approximately 4"x6" watercolor and ink painting matted in an off-white 8"x10" mat, contact me at KarlaNolan@gmail.com for more information, Paypal accepted

"Italy: Cypress and Poppies" by Karla Nolan, watercolor and ink painting

Fond memories of Italy again, irresistible!  I cannot speak the Italian language except for basic phrases (grazie, prego, bellissima) and, while I can remember an occasional phrase for a short while, I have all but given up learning this Latin based lingo.  However, my friend Patrizia is encouraging me to learn a bit more and I'm enjoying a book or two written by Tim Parks (an English gentleman who has lived and worked in Italy for 30 years) in which I can pick up a phrase here and there.  The moral of this story:  (1) never give up on learning something new and (2) visit Italy, for goodness sakes, do you know what you are missing?

"Roman Holiday Poppies" by Karla Nolan, matted watercolor and ink painting

There's no better time than the present, or so I thought while staying recently in Italy.  I picked up those watercolors and ink pens, put my mind to it, and produced these poppies.  Quite a switch from my recent lunar mindset, eh?  What fun I had!

"Cherished Travel Memory: Red Mountain " by Karla Nolan 8"x12" watercolor painting matted to 12"x16"

The southwestern portion of Colorado has many beautiful passes and colorful, high mountains, but this is absolutely my favorite:  Red Mountain.  It is between Silverton and Ouray, on the road to the Million Dollar Highway and Durango, as well as the always fascinating Anasazi ruins at Mesa Verde.  Red Mountain is loaded with iron ore, surrounded by evergreens and aspens; there is no bad view of it.  (I love it, can you tell?)

"Cherished Travel Memory:  Red Mountain", watercolor painting approximately 8"x12 " image in white mat to fit 12"x16" frame, $145 includes s/h in continental U.S., click Paypal button below or write me at KarlaNolan@gmail.com for more information

"Shy" by Karla Nolan, framed and matted waterccolor painting

My dear friend, Meg, owns EsScentuals, a unique boutique here in Fort Collins, Colorado.  She displays my flower paintings, be they in pastel, oil, or now watercolor.  I recently brought in several new pieces of my favorite flower:  poppies, coquelicot, papaveri.  The languages may differ but the sounds are bright and happy.  Should you be interested in purchasing this 7"x5" (mat size) work for $95, please call her at 970-484-7862 or visit EsScentuals when you are in town at 142 South College, in the heart of downtown.  Tell her Karla sent you!

"Dark Hills, Bright Skies" by Karla Nolan, original watercolor painting, matted

This is another experimental piece in watercolor using both brush and palette knives.  Always up for a new challenge, eh?  The paper is a bit rougher than others I've tried, hence the more textured sky.  Bottom line:  I AM HAVING FUN!

"Dark Hills, Bright Skies",  palette knife and brush watercolor painting, approximately 5"x7" image in beige mat to fit 8"x10" frame, $60 includes s/h in continental U.S., click Paypal button below or write me at KarlaNolan@gmail.com for more information

"Snowflakes and Moonlight" by Karla Nolan, matted watercolor painting

One thing I'm learning about watercolor painting, you need to have an adventurous and experimental nature!  I wasn't sure how this one would turn out but am happy with it -- it reminds me of wintertime when the snow is flying -- but with a full moon, of course!  Pop it into a frame, hang in on the wall, all the matting work is finished for you!  (The "suede" mat is a paler blue-grey than it might show in the photo.)

"Chicken Little Was Right (Colorado Sunset)" by Karla Nolan, matted watercolor painting

If memory serves me correctly, Chicken Little believed that the sky was falling.  Well, in this case, it appears to be happening.  This is how the sun sets in our fair state of Colorado some evenings!
