I wanted to paint a closeup of the beautiful trunks. My intent here was to paint as if I were standing in front of this grouping of trees, and photographed just the middle section, as opposed to full trunks I usually paint.

This painting is one of three I did for Quench Activewear to choose from for their new "Aspen Magic" yoga pants, which will debut at the 2019 Telluride Yoga Festival, then be available online the end of June.

This piece will fit beautifully in any standard 11"x14" frame.
I typically frame them in weathered black or white frames, but some of my collectors have framed them in rugged natural wood frames, and they look amazing!

This is the third of four paintings I did not the new Ocean Prime restaurant here in Colorado. Unfortunately I did not get a full photo before varnishing, so the glare affects the richness of the color in the photo.

"Cherished Travel Memory: Red Mountain " by Karla Nolan 8"x12" watercolor painting matted to 12"x16"

The southwestern portion of Colorado has many beautiful passes and colorful, high mountains, but this is absolutely my favorite:  Red Mountain.  It is between Silverton and Ouray, on the road to the Million Dollar Highway and Durango, as well as the always fascinating Anasazi ruins at Mesa Verde.  Red Mountain is loaded with iron ore, surrounded by evergreens and aspens; there is no bad view of it.  (I love it, can you tell?)

"Snow Trees at Night" by Karla Nolan, palette knife oil painting

Okay, it's winter here in my sweet Colorado, it's really cold here and there are two or three feet of snow or more in the nearby foothills.  What does this look like at night, pitch black, maybe just a hint of moonlight?  I don't honestly depict Nature as it actually is, I'd be a photographer if I did that, but this is my creative imagination at work....looks sort of inviting if you have warm clothing, huh?

KMA2687 Ethereal Aspen by Denver, Colorado artist Kit Hevron Mahoney (abstract landscape 48x74, aspen)

This is a commission painted for the lounge in the Washington Park Grille restaurant, a neighborhood gem, on Old South Gaylord Street here in Denver. If you live in the area and have not been to the Grille, do stop in to enjoy a fabulous meal and see my painting. Commissions are always a challenge to meet the expectations of the client and I was thrilled with how this came out and how it enhances the space.
