Color of Summer by Kay Wyne

Color of Summer
10" x 20" Oil on RayMar Cotton Panel
Contemporary Palette Knife Painting
This landscape was painted with a palette knife.....all the way.  It was fun to paint because I mixed my paints as I moved the paint around.  There is texture on the surface of the canvas panel because I put in thick chunks of paint as I worked on this painting.  Color of Summer is framed in a handsome frame, and is needs a new home!  Contact Kay Wyne for purchasing info.  Thanks for looking.....Kay

Georgie Boy by Kay Wyne - Sold

Georgie Boy
Sold
12" x 12" Oil on Gallery Wrap Canvas
Contemporary Rooster Painting
George has flown away from Dutch Art Gallery, and I am thrilled to report that he has a new home!  Thanks to gallery owner Pam Massar for selling Georgie Boy to a Dallas collector.  George is a handsome Buff Orpington rooster, and is the mascot at our local Gecko Hardware Store in Lake Highlands.  I painted this 12" x 12" canvas several months ago in the gallery with George sitting on the counter.  I wanted to get his beautiful feathers and full body in this painting.  I loved layering the paint to get a full-chested and fluffy George on canvas using my palette knife.  Thanks for looking at my blog...I guess I need to paint another Georgie soon!  Kay

Impulsive by Kay Wyne

Impulsive
18" x 18" Oil on Gallery Wrap Canvas
Contemporary Floral Landscape
Color, texture, and movement are found in this contemporary palette knife painting.  I used brushes, palette knives and a sculpting tool to achieve this abstract look.  I actually started with a painting underneath...one that I wasn't happy with.  So when scraping through the top layer of oils the colors from the first painting show through.  This painting is hanging at Dutch Art Gallery in Dallas, Texas.  Thanks for looking at this blog....Kay

A palette knife abstract with luminous green paint popping out of the various blues, aqua and black acrylic paint. Many layers with interesting texture make up this painting. Large fields or blocks of color  make it easy to look at but also has visual interest with the way the layers of paint are applied.
The size and color is popular for wall decoration.

Pure Bliss by Kay Wyne

Pure Bliss

I am getting ready for an upcoming exhibit with three other local artists...and I have been exploring floral still life paintings.  The possibilities are endless, and I am having so much fun with them!  This still life needs a frame since it is painted on a museum quality panel.  Contact ME for more information on Pure Bliss.  We are snowed in today, so it will be a great day to paint at the studio.  Thanks for looking, Kay

Flutter by Kay Wyne

Flutter
24" x 24" Oil on Gallery Wrap Canvas
Contemporary Abstract Palette Knife Painting
Red dragonflies are all over the gardens at the Dallas Arboretum.  I worked off of a photograph taken by friend Mark Malone.  It was an amazing photo, and I went abstract with it.  I exaggerated the colors, and implied that the dragonfly was fluttering over some flowers.  The oils were applied with a palette knife so there is plenty of texture on the canvas.  Sides of the canvas are painted, so framing is optional.  Contact Kay for purchasing info.  Thanks, Kay

Layers of Color by Kay Wyne - Sold

Layers of Color
Sold at Dutch Art Gallery!
20" x 24" Oil on Canvas
Contemporary Palette Knife Painting
This is paint sold last week at Dutch Art Gallery in Dallas, Texas.
I really liked this painting, because it was fun to paint....started with
a brush but in the end, the palette knife took control.  And, of
course it was colorful and had lots of texture.  Pam Massar,
owner at the gallery framed it up and it looked handsome.  I am glad
that this painting, Layers of Color has a new home.
Thank you, Pam!

Joyful by Kay Wyne

Joyful
20" x 20" Oil on RayMar Cotton Panel
Contemporary Palette Knife Painting
This painting is still on my easel, but I signed it and it needs to dry.  I put out greens, whites and grays and mixed piles and piles of paint on my palette, grabbed the palette knife and started with my darks first.  I pushed and pulled the paint, added a small amount of raw umber and cad red to the palette.  I had not planned on going this far with the painting, but once I started, I couldn't stop.  I have a beautiful frame to put on it...will post it framed up when it dries.  Contact Kay for purchasing information.
Thanks for looking.  KMW

Jar of Joy by Kay Wyne

Jar of Joy
$75
6" x 6" Oil on RayMar Panel
Contemporary Abstract Palette Knife Painting
I was painting a floral landscape yesterday, and had started this little panel, and added some dark greens and violets, giving it more depth and interest.  In this still life, the little jar is holding three flowers...very simple.  The palette knife gives it some texture.  Contact Kay

Blowing In The Wind by Kay Wyne

Blowing In The Wind
30" x 40" Oil on Gallery Wrap Canvas
Contemporary Aspens - Palette Knife Painting
My painting for the paint challenge was a scraper.  Just didn't make the cut, so I am posting one of my contemporary aspen paintings.  I usually choose a square or vertical format for my aspens, but Blowing In The Wind is on a heavy duty (thick and chunky) horizontal stretcher bars.  I used bold colors, brushes and the palette knife.  The trees are thick and textured, as are the leaves that are falling.  This painting is for sale....contact Kay for purchasing information.  It is ready for a new home!  Thanks, Kay

Smell The Roses by Kay Wyne

Smell The Flowers
8" x 8" Oil on RayMar Cotton Panel
Contemporary Still Life Painting
This little palette knife painting was inspired by a small bouquet of pink and coral flowers that are at the studio.  I simplified the bouquet, and grayed down the colors, and went abstract.  I started to use a brush to apply the paint, but this painting called for the palette knife.  The colors used are left over from yesterday's painting...I freeze my oils so they don't dry out...I have piles of corals, pinks and lavenders in the freezer, so I might have another painting with the same colors in the near future.  I am happy with the composition, paint application and the way it turned out.  Thanks for looking at this blog....Kay

Thoughtful by Kay Wyne

Thoughtful
24" x 20" Oil on Gallery Wrap Linen
Contemporary Palette Knife Painting
Raw natural linen is what I painted this still life on.  The red tulips were gorgeous in an arrangement that was leftover from a Valentine's Day gift...I loved the shapes of the flowers and the refection in the glass vase with the stems in it.  I put some dark torrit grey paint at the vase...to ground it. I used the palette knife on this linen, and let the natural linen show through, not painting it all out.  Thick, thick, thick paint adds texture and interest to this contemporary floral, giving it an abstract quality. Contact Kay for more information on this painting.  Thanks, Kay

A Burst of Color by Kay Wyne

A Burst Of Color

Rattled by Kay Wyne

Rattled
24" x 24" Oil on Gallery Wrap Canvas
Abstract Palette Knife Painting
This painting went through many changes, starting out as a landscape, turning into some dark abstract aspens, then a tornado hit it. (Everyone saw the tornado in the painting!) It was a wiper for sure. I rescued the canvas, but painted it on a day when I was really rattled. I was interrupted at the studio numerous times...therefore, the title, "Rattled". This painting is a detour from my normal palette, being on the dark and muted side of the color spectrum. Thanks for looking at the art on this blog....contact Kay for more information on this painting or the art posted on this blog.

Fickle by Kay Wyne

Fickle
14" x 11" Oil on Canvas
Contemporary Palette Knife Painting
This abstract still life has sharp edges, bold colors and texture.  I used my palette knife on most of work, along with a few brushstrokes.  This small piece has painted edges, but would look great in a contemporary frame.  Contact Kay for more info on this painting.  Thanks, KMW

Peaceful by Kay Wyne

Peaceful
Contemporary Landscape Painting
12" x 16" Oil on Canvas
This painting went through some difficult stages before I decided it was complete.  Actually, the canvas was larger, and I cut the canvas down after I had finished painting.  I normally don't do that, but I felt that the composition worked better without so much canvas.  I believe it was originally an 18" x 18".  I used a palette knife all the way on this one...there is texture and depth in the landscape.  The skies are soft and whispy.

This painting is back from the framers and is ready to hang...
Contact Kay for purchasing information on this painting.  Thanks for looking...Kay

Horizon Series: Abstract # 1027

Horizon Series: Abstract 1027
Oil on 22" x 30" Gallery Wrap Canvas
Contemporary Palette Knife Painting
This abstract went through alot of changes before it was completed. When I started it, I was using a totally different color scheme and did not know I was going in this direction. I applied layers and layers of color...there is alot of movement and depth in this abstract. I used both the brush and palette knife on this one. Lines, shapes, color and texture...it is all on this canvas. I really like this size canvas...it hangs well above a piece of furnture or tilted up against the wall, sitting on a table or cabinet. This contemporary abstract is on gallery wrap canvas, so no frame is needed. It is ready to hang! Thanks so much for viewing this blog. Please contact me if you are interested in purchasing this painting. Have a great day! Contact Kay for more information.  KMW
