Day # 25 in the 30/30 Paint Challenge

My painting for the paint challenge was a scraper.  Just didn't make the cut, so I am posting one of my contemporary aspen paintings.  I usually choose a square or vertical format for my aspens, but Blowing In The Wind is on a heavy duty (thick and chunky) horizontal stretcher bars.  I used bold colors, brushes and the palette knife.  The trees are thick and textured, as are the leaves that are falling.  This painting is for sale....contact Kay for purchasing information.  It is ready for a new home!  Thanks, Kay

Contemporary Palette Knife Painting

Thick layers of paint cover the canvas, giving it color and texture.  My inspiration for this painting was a field of aspens in Evergreen, Colorado.  Sharon and I stayed on a working ranch, and had plenty of wildlife and beautiful landscape to paint.  Here is a pic of the painting in progress:

I painted the sky, foreground and trees with a large brush, then went into the painting with the palette knife and lots of paint.  In the end I punched it up with more color.  This is day 19 in the 30 Paintings in 30 Days Challenge with Leslie Saeta.   Thanks for looking....contact Kay for more info on this painting.  I hope to be back in the studio....I have an abstract that I am working on for tomorrow's post. Where does one start after such a hiatus since my last posting that it is hard to know where to start. The good news is that I was swamped with several commissions including 5 abstract paintings for Eye Care Associates in Fort Collins, CO and one floral oil painting for the Arapahoe reception area of Kaiser Permanente in Denver, CO. They were all large pieces and I had a great time painting them. Hopefully, now I will be able to settle down to do some more small daily paintings in addition to the paintings I am starting for our next show here at Brushstrokes. This is a painting I have always wanted to do but never took the time to tackle and am really happy with the results.
