Mixed Media,Collage, Abstract Painting, Contemporary Art, Expressionism, “ Someone To Watch Over Me" by Contemporary Artist Tracy Lupanow

"Of course you don't die. Nobody dies. Death doesn't exist. You only reach a new level of vision, a new realm of consciousness, a new unknown world."
- Henry Miller

I was visiting Denver, and while walking down an alleyway, I saw her beautiful face on a deteriorating old poster. The solemn and longing look in her eyes drew me in and I snapped a photo. It is very comforting to me to believe that our loved ones who have passed are watching over us.

Painted with acrylic, oil pastel, ink stick and copies of my b&w photos. On a wood cradle board.

21.5"x23.5"x 1.25" Mixed Media Collage on Wood Cradle Board/SOLD

KMD2333 North Park Vista by Colorado artist Kit Hevron Mahoney (6x8 oil landscape North Park, CO)

It has been such a busy year that I haven't posted in months. I have been spending a lot of time experimenting with abstraction. I will start posting those in the New Year but meanwhile, here is a fun expression of a summer scene in North Park. This piece is 6"x8" with expressive, less detailed brushwork.  6”x8” unframed original oil

KMA3011 Come What May by Colorado artist Kit Hevron Mahoney (24x24 abstract acrylic)

I decided to step out of the box and show one of my recent abstract paintings. I have been reluctant to show my abstracts as they are so different from my representational works. When creating my abstracts I have challenged myself to work intuitively and totally from within with no visual reference to draw from. Having painted for almost 30 years from reference this has pushed me into new places not always comfortable. So many of my abstracts have many layers of painted ideas, some of which are visible adding to the final composition. It is very difficult to know when I am finished as opposed to, for instance, a landscape painting. I hope you enjoy following my journey into the abstract as a part of my creative journey as a painter. Of course, I will continue with my representational works and hope to see some influence in them from the abstract exploration. I would love to hear back from you as to how you are reacting to these new pieces. This is one of my paintings that will be showing next month in an abstract show at the Framed Image Gallery here in Denver. 24"x 24" original acrylic abstract unframed $1200 + $40 shipping and handling See more paintings on my blog Visit my website Daily Painters of Colorado

KMD2950 Pondering Clifford Still by Colorado artist Kit Hevron Mahoney (5x7 original oil, figurative, museum, Clifford Still)

It has been awhile since I have made time to post. I have been busy painting commissions, learning new computer software and I am now getting back to focusing on my upcoming solo show "The Journey Home - A Painting Odyssey" at Brushstrokes Studio-Gallery. (opening on June 21, 2014). We are having a big spring snowstorm here in Denver today, so I am using it as an excuse to stay home, warm and have a catch up day. I shot this subject while visiting the Clifford Still Museum here in Denver. I went to the museum thinking I would not be enthralled with his work but was very surprised to find that much of his work intrigued me! Here is someone enjoying and studying it too!

Colorado Flood Relief Fundraiser KM2124 Fields of Lavender by Kit Hevron Mahoney (5x7 original oil landscape)

Here is my 2nd painting whose sale proceeds will be contributed to the Colorado relief efforts. I will send the very generous purchaser the painting along with details of the donation placed in their name. I want thank everyone in advance for helping in the relief efforts for the many displaced Coloradans who were unfortunate enough to have been in the path of this disaster.
These lavender fields were painted from photos I took in Sequim, Washington from a trip with my husband Jim several years ago. Much closer than Provence!

KM2907 Nature's Jewels by Colorado artist Kit Hevron Mahoney (24x30 oil autumn, nature, Glacier National Park)

I was shocked at how much time has gone by since I posted on my blog. I seem to be going from daily paintings to monthly paintings being posted, although I am painting much more than that. It has been a great year for commissions and I am currently working on a piece for the Denver, Colorado Exempla Saint Joseph Hospital campus redevelopment project and last month had a poppy painting placed at the Kaiser Permanente Arapahoe office reception area. This painting is another I have created in the series of painting from images that I have put aside through the years. I found this image on a trip several years ago to the Canadian part of Glacier National Park with my great travel companion Pat. I have always loved the color and light of this close up of some fall foilage, Oak leaves I am thinking. It is for sale at Longcoat Fine Art Gallery in Ruidoso, NM. I am currently gathering ideas for our upcoming October show "Define and Describe" at Brushstrokes.

KM2908 Autumn Spirit by Colorado artist Kit Hevron Mahoney (36x48 oil landscape, fall, autumn Colorado scene)

What a fantastic time I had painting this scene that I found one fall on the way in to our mountain cabin. It was so enjoyable to immerse myself into the warm colors and textures of this scene. This is one of many that have been on the back burner to paint and I finally have allowed myself to tackle. Our new space at Brushstrokes is so much more open allowing all of us to create much larger images.

KM2897 Sacred Shadows by Colorado artist Kit Hevron Mahoney (48x36 original oil landscape, abstract, aspen)

Where does one start after such a hiatus since my last posting that it is hard to know where to start. The good news is that I was swamped with several commissions including 5 abstract paintings for Eye Care Associates in Fort Collins, CO and one floral oil painting for the Arapahoe reception area of Kaiser Permanente in Denver, CO. They were all large pieces and I had a great time painting them. Hopefully, now I will be able to settle down to do some more small daily paintings in addition to the paintings I am starting for our next show here at Brushstrokes. This is a painting I have always wanted to do but never took the time to tackle and am really happy with the results.

KM2896 Toast the Town by Colorado contemporary artist Kit Hevron Mahoney (6x8 ,abstract, urban, San Francisco, original oil)

Weekend before last I went to San Francisco with my great friends Connie and Pat. We had the most memorable, fun an crazy times with good friends of theirs who live there. It is a weekend that will go down as top of my list of good times. I created this painting from a picture taken of sunset over San Francisco from the condo where we stayed. I had such a great time painting this with the freedom and abandon I felt throughout our visit. I hope this will translate into more of my work.
