Pallette knife abstract Earthbound by Sally Fraser

                                               EARTHBOUND by Sally Fraser

Earthy, warm colors in this palette knife painting with a punch of blue. You will like the heavy texture on this painting. 36 x 12 x 2 on a board and could also be hung horizontal.  Very dramatic painting for a modern setting.

KMA3030 Serene Moment by Colorado contemporary artist Kit Hevron Mahoney (10x8 oil textured sunset)

As I am exploring the world of abstraction, I am studying how to create exciting landscapes with far less detail. This entails fewer brushstrokes using lots of paint, exciting colors and letting a scene tell its story using the most basic of shapes. This is one of my studies with more on the horizon. In addition to my representational works, this year promises a new enthusiasm infused into stepping out of my comfort zone. 10”x 8” original oil unframed $125 + $10 shipping and handling See more paintings on my blog Visit my website Daily Painters of Colorado

KMA2961 Orange Zest by Colorado Contemporary artist Kit Hevron Mahoney (12x12 acrylic, abstract floral)

This is another of my abstract floral still life paintings that was done as an exploration into creating paintings that have less detail but say more. It is a challenge to work mostly intuitively on these. Many of these start with some sort of reference but soon take on their own lives once I let go and let them dictate the direction. I have this painting at my Denver art gallery and studio, Brushstrokes Studio-Gallery. Now that summer is coming to an end and I finish my great commissions, I will be getting back to more of these as they indeed, do challenge me! 12"x12" original acrylic on panel board unframed $550 + $35 shipping and handling See more paintings on my blog Visit my website  Daily Painters of Colorado Brushstrokes Studio-Gallery

KM2907 Nature's Jewels by Colorado artist Kit Hevron Mahoney (24x30 oil autumn, nature, Glacier National Park)

I was shocked at how much time has gone by since I posted on my blog. I seem to be going from daily paintings to monthly paintings being posted, although I am painting much more than that. It has been a great year for commissions and I am currently working on a piece for the Denver, Colorado Exempla Saint Joseph Hospital campus redevelopment project and last month had a poppy painting placed at the Kaiser Permanente Arapahoe office reception area. This painting is another I have created in the series of painting from images that I have put aside through the years. I found this image on a trip several years ago to the Canadian part of Glacier National Park with my great travel companion Pat. I have always loved the color and light of this close up of some fall foilage, Oak leaves I am thinking. It is for sale at Longcoat Fine Art Gallery in Ruidoso, NM. I am currently gathering ideas for our upcoming October show "Define and Describe" at Brushstrokes.

KM2908 Autumn Spirit by Colorado artist Kit Hevron Mahoney (36x48 oil landscape, fall, autumn Colorado scene)

What a fantastic time I had painting this scene that I found one fall on the way in to our mountain cabin. It was so enjoyable to immerse myself into the warm colors and textures of this scene. This is one of many that have been on the back burner to paint and I finally have allowed myself to tackle. Our new space at Brushstrokes is so much more open allowing all of us to create much larger images.

"Circular Divisions" textured, abstract geometric painting by Carol Nelson

Circular Divisions

This triptych painting is a simple pattern of lines and circles.  It's really more of a color study than anything else.  The top section is cool palette which gets warmer towards the bottom of each canvas.

Heavy application of modeling compound prior to painting gives the mottled look because the modeling compound absorbs color differently than primed canvas.  I like the variation that occurs naturally.
