Valentines day has a special meaning to me beyond the obvious, a day to celebrate love. It was in the parking lot of a Hardy's, inside my Toyota truck 25 years ago, that I first kissed my husband. I didn't know that he was bound and determined to have me as his wife, I was just enjoying spending time with him. And here we are, working towards our 14th anniversary later this fall. 
The painting showcased here is also the start of a love story. It was commissioned as an engagement gift from the gentleman to his girlfriend. The actual painting has their names painted on the heart, but I kept the image before they were added for my public displaying of the piece. It was very well received and I love the meaning behind the painting- I love carousel horses, and love can make you go around and around and makes you dizzy with stars in your eyes, and it also has up days and it has down days- sort of like the plucking of petals off of a flower. She love me, she loves me not etc. They did end up marrying, she said yes. A happy ending, for them and for me- hurrah!

"Seduction"

Spring is just around the corner; I think of pastels, bright floral colors, , new growth, new beginnings. My stallions call to the mares, and even the mares cuddle and show affection when in heat. Part of the dance for mating is the wooing, and this painting shows just that. I viewed being approached by a suitor similarly, with attraction yet caution. I also used color symbolically, pink for the ladies, blues and yellows for the guys, orange is for optimism. Painted in acrylics on a 24"x24"x1.5" gallery wrap canvas. I've called it "Seduction", it will be entered in a competition so not currently available.

"Humpty in Love" Acrylic on 6x6 stretched canvas. Genre: fantasy.

Humpty is in love with the Red Queen, who doesn't know he exists. It's a good thing because she'd probably regard him as a pushover. The Queen is strolling in the distance, while the Cheshire Cat peeks out from the treetop. On the wall, it reads "HD + RQ." In the lefthand corner, Tweddle Dee left some snarky graffiti about Alice. The words "time" and "Alice" are visible, but what he really wrote was, "For a good time call Alice." The artist's signature "Theresa" is on the wall in the lower right corner.

400! Yep, this post is number 400 on my blog. Wow...deep breath.

That's a lot of chatter by yours truly. I hope you enjoy the stories of my life, my kids, my struggles and enchantment with art-making. But mostly I hope you are touched by my art. It's like putting a little piece of my soul "out there" and at this point in my life, I'm OK with that. Really. This is what I do and who I am; definitely not mainstream.

But the folks that appreciate my paintings are passionate and just a little bit twisted. Like me. And, as unbelievable as it seems, somehow we find each other. For me, it's like finding a long lost friend--someone who speaks the same language, someone who appreciates the absurd and still sees the intrinsic beauty. So to my slightly twisted and passionate followers and collectors: thank you for coming along with me on this wacky little adventure and I promise you at least 400 more equally quirky and slightly bizarre works of art.
