This one is already gone...but I had to post it along the way. I have been a bit under the weather for the past week and trying to catch up puts me at the computer for a long stretch!  I want to share every contemporary horse painting that comes through this studio.  The colors were strong in this piece. They rang clear and bright for the eye to enjoy.

Trace Adkins played most of this week. As mentioned early I am leaning more into my CW roots here of Texas with the summer heat.

We are still battling to keep our new Burr Oak in the front yard. Although  all the other leaves are turning crispy brown there is a hint of new leaves trying to come out. Doubtful they will survive the Texas August heat.  Too hot to walk. Too hot to walk Paddy.  Just plain too Texas Hot.

I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you, the riches of his glorious inheritance in his holy people, and his incomparably great power for us who believe. Ephesians 1:18-19

Been There... Completed Contemporary Horse Painting by Texas Artist Laurie Pace

Been There   © Laurie Pace 2014
Been There
©+Laurie Pace       Graphics One Design 2014

 Size:30 x 40  Oil on Canvas.

It is finished... I can say I have been there officially.  The composition of this painting literally grew from the story that I felt in my body of the daily movement of the world and the sun and moon.  Inside that is the movement of each of us... routinely doing the same thing over and over again.  You have been there I am sure!

This contemporary horse painting uniquely captures that moment that you realize it is time to do new things and bring new moments into your lives.

I denied myself nothing my eyes desired;
I refused my heart no pleasure.
My heart took delight in all my labor,
and this was the reward for all my toil.
Yet when I surveyed all that my hands had done
and what I had toiled to achieve,
everything was meaningless, a chasing after the wind;
nothing was gained under the sun. Ecclesiastes 2:10-11

Progress on Been There, Contemporary Horse Paintings by Texas Artist Laurie Pace

Progress Been There
©+Laurie Pace       Graphics One Design 2014

 Size:30 x 40  Oil on Canvas.

The patterns have begun to establish themselves on the surface. The strength in the horses neck is evident by the color choice. I am an artist that goes after 'contemporary horse paintings' with brilliant colors.

I had hoped to finish to post but taking this composition slowly as it develops and not rushing the energy. I want the painting to evolve naturally.  You can see the rough music through the layers of oil paints as I progress into the next layers of paint. Still caught up in the 'been there' as I think more of the sun and moon and the daily journey and how our lives are totally situated around this natural happening of day into night repeated to what seems infinite or until the sun bursts and flares out leaving the earth cold and dead.

What do people gain from all their labors
at which they toil under the sun?
Generations come and generations go,
    but the earth remains forever.
The sun rises and the sun sets,
and hurries back to where it rises.
The wind blows to the south
    and turns to the north;
round and round it goes,

    ever returning on its course.
Ecclesiastes 1:3-6

Been There, Contemporary Horse Paintings by Laurie Pace

Been There    ©Laurie Pace 2014

Progress Painting Been There
©+Laurie Pace       Graphics One Design 2014

 Size: 30 x 40  Oil on Canvas.

I am constantly looking for neat things to mount as the foundation of my contemporary horse paintings. I came across a CW book of older music and chose the Clint Black song "Been There".   I shredded it and glazed it onto the canvas.

"did you ever wake up in the middle of the night"
"did you ever wake up in the middle of the day"
"did you ever wake up in the middle of a dream"

Those were the lines that struck me as I worked... and as you can see there are spheres in the painting... When you think of how "rote" our days have become... Work, Drink, Eat and Sleep... and do it again the next day. Both Parents working, children in day care.... everyone forgetting how to live... how to be alive.  We have all BEEN THERE.

So the painting has a strong horse prancing with the sun and moon revolving... like they have 'been there' forever each day.
Watch for the finished painting tomorrow.

The unfolding of your words gives light; it gives understanding to the simple.
Psalm 119:130 NIV

Horse 57 Gazing into the Storm by Texas Artist Laurie Pace

Horse 57 Gazing into the Storm   © Laurie Pace
©+Laurie Pace       Graphics One Design 2014

 Size: 8 x 8  Oil on Canvas.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Still working on my 100 horse paintings for this year... small affordable ones for collectors.  This one is named for the scene outside my window...storms to the west, all dissipating before they arrive at our house. I can only gaze into the storm, not actually feel the rain! Contemporary Palette Knife Horse Paintings alway lead to lots of layering of paint. Here is a close up. Click it to see it large.

August really caught me off guard. I believe that July was such a huge month filled with too many parties and too much food that I am paying for it now. Layered on too much cake and too many times eating out!

Throw in Texas heat in the 100's and you gotta know where I am.
Change is surrounding us daily in our lives. Trying to spool down to less stress reactions to the change is hard for me.  Trying to pick up my guitar more, play my piano more and I am cross stitching a baby blanket for the new coming grand-baby due early next year.

I have decided I HAVE to start doing a studio letter once a month.  I firmly believe that people do not have time to read blogs every day. I do it for google to keep my work out there and it is a must to sell artwork. If you are anything like me, you probably delete this if it comes in email every morning.... if you did not delete it, you might sign up for my Studio letter and I will promise to try and get back in the habit!

Horse 58 Circus Horse by Texas Artist Laurie Pace, Contemporary Horse Paintings

Horse 58 Circus Horse   ©Laurie Pace
©+Laurie Pace       Graphics One Design 2014

 Size: 8 x 8  Oil on Canvas.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This is a prior horse painting now with new colors and new layers and a new look. Imagine yourself under the big top... I remember going to the circus a few times, Ringling Brothers in Dallas when they came.  When you are little everything is magnified to you, the lights, the colors, the action... it is all so impressive and at times even scary.  When the horse is brushed to shine, you can almost see the reflection of lights on its coat. In the patterns of the horse you can see the tight rope walkers, the clowns and the acrobats.

I lift up my eyes to the mountains—
where does my help come from?
My help comes from the Lord,
the Maker of heaven and earth. Psalm 121:1-2
