Afghanistan Poppy Field by Tim Lincoln...SOLD

18"x36"
$400.00

mixed media
The opium poppy , a beautiful and seemingly benign work of art of nature, yet holds such a nefarious history back to the Greeks and Romans. It was worshiped as Morpheous because of how the dreamy and sleepy concoction was thought to be from the Gods. Of course that was Morphine. Some of the most beautiful plants are very deadly too.In the South we grow “Angel Trumpet” which has a huge yellow bloom that is spectacular .It’s a member of the Datura species and was used in Victorian times when you wanted to off someone .”Here honey, try this delicious tea.”

Wars were even started over it yet when I see poppies in bloom, the paper thin illuminative colors are a treasure and a heralding of Spring and what nature is about to reveal.

BTW….I’m not growing opium poppies. LOL

This painting is heavily textured with molding paste, organic material such as peat moss, dried weed, crackle paint, chopsticks and molding paste .I hope the new owner enjoys it.

"Between Storms" Abstract Large Landscape Inspired by the Oregon Coast by California Janet Bludau

24" x 36" Oil on Canvas
$600
A woman and her dog are out for a morning stroll. The sun is peaking out but she knows it won't be for long.  There is another storm forecasted and it should hit within a few hours.  The storms are why she has a home at the coast.  The only room on the second story of her home is her large, sparse, bedroom with a small writing table at one end.  The entire wall facing the ocean is made up of windows.  There is nothing she loves more than to cozy up in her warm beach house while a storm passes through.

The Painting: I painted this in two days with layering. The first day was Saturday as I placed two layers of drippy acrylics. Then on Sunday I began working on two Arabian horses that just were not working on the canvas and I wiped over the surface with more colors. By Sunday afternoon I began to see what was evolving was a playful scene and the two ponies looked like escaped horses from a carousel. Hence the name. My mom named them. She was helping me cover paintings for my two NY gallery openings on Sunday and I was working on this composition. She always has a good comment to make. I am trying to encourage her to take some painting workshops with me. I have never taken any as I teach them... but it might be fun. ANY WAY, a collector had purchased another painting and wanted something larger. I shot her pictures of this one and she fell in love before the last paint stroke was on the canvas. So this one flew via fedex out on Monday and will arrive at it's new home today.

The Painting: This painting captured even more than I set out to capture. I wanted the boats and the wind... had not anticipated a change in the weather. The original sketch was in charcoal on canvas. Then I came in with acrylic paint to establish values. Morgan told me too much blue, too many mid tones... and then I took off with the loaded palette knife with lots of color playing into the blues...with pinks, violets, greens, yellows etc. The result was more amazing than I set out to paint. Reckless adventure seeing the clear skies on the horizon and racing toward it tacking back and forth in the wind to make forward progress.
