Afghanistan Poppy Field by Tim Lincoln...SOLD

18"x36"
$400.00

mixed media
The opium poppy , a beautiful and seemingly benign work of art of nature, yet holds such a nefarious history back to the Greeks and Romans. It was worshiped as Morpheous because of how the dreamy and sleepy concoction was thought to be from the Gods. Of course that was Morphine. Some of the most beautiful plants are very deadly too.In the South we grow “Angel Trumpet” which has a huge yellow bloom that is spectacular .It’s a member of the Datura species and was used in Victorian times when you wanted to off someone .”Here honey, try this delicious tea.”

Wars were even started over it yet when I see poppies in bloom, the paper thin illuminative colors are a treasure and a heralding of Spring and what nature is about to reveal.

BTW….I’m not growing opium poppies. LOL

This painting is heavily textured with molding paste, organic material such as peat moss, dried weed, crackle paint, chopsticks and molding paste .I hope the new owner enjoys it.

Houston CityScape by Tim Lincoln

14"x11"

$175.00 +10.00 shipping

This is a free form compulation of Houston's skyline as seen from Allen Parkway. It's a smaller painting than I usually do but it has some interesting textures by building up the paint.Although, not an exact photographic image,it does include some buildings from Philip Johnson.I was trying to get the feeling of heat since I shot this pic in August.I love Houston but half the year it's like living in Cairo with humidity.I still have some touch up's to do but it's finished.I'm glad I didn't use a larger canvas.
