Finding It's Way by Janet Bludau, Abstract Landscapes, Abstract Seascapes, Rich in Color and Texture

Finding It's Way
8" x 10" Oil
Showing some Red Under Painting in my paintings is common for me.  I also like Black or Turquoise.
I will sometimes come back in with a bit of turpentine in small areas to lift off paint I have applied, so as to bring it down to the under painting if my eye is telling me there should be more.  I also like to work a painting in stages.  This means that I finish a painting to a point where there is paint on the entire canvas and then I hang it for a while.  I look at it while I am working on another project.  I take it down and add or subtract, making the changes that I feel the piece needs to have more balance of color, more pop, texture, etc.

"Approaching Carmel" Abstract Landscapes by Janet Bludau

14" x 18"
Oil on Canvas
Parts of my initial underpainting show through the top layer of paint.  In the final stages I added palette knife markings to the painting, further delineating the shape of different crop sections.    Central California provides many photos for my paintings.  I like the geometric shapes of the land and how it all fits together as a puzzle.  Besides the useful photos,  some of my favorite places to visit are in Central and Northern California.  Carmel is at the top of the list.  Carmel is known for its beautiful coast of course.  The countryside of the Carmel Valley is equally beautiful.

To The Sea by Janet Bludau, Abstract Landscapes and Seascapes

12" x 12" on Deep Birch Panel
Ready to hang alone or with "Meandering" and "As Far As The Eye Can See", both of which can also be found on my Website:  http://janetbludau.fineartstudioonline.com/
The wood sides have been waxed with a clear Briwax and buffed

There is a red underpainting applied in the first stage of this painting.
After that I have gone in and added layers, changing parts of the painting as I go.
The last stage is where I took several Oil Sticks to the grass areas and also scratched into the oil with palette knives.

Abstract Paintings by Janet Bludau

SOLD
6" x 6"
I have been a very lazy blogger of late.  Not so much lazy but having to put a few other things first in my life.  I am thinking I have a period of "back to normal" here for awhile so its back to painting for me.  Kind of intimidating to start.  I keep finding other little jobs I have to do to prep for painting.  Then I tell myself, "no more, just open the tubes of paint and go!"  We'll see if I do it today.

"Where Oh Where" Abstract Landscapes by California Janet Bludau

12" x 12" Oil
$250
I recently came back from a really enjoyable 4 day workshop by Marla Baggetta, a Portland based artist.  Marla's medium is primarily soft pastels but she uses a lot of acrylics also.  I found a kindred spirit:  I get teased about how many paths I paint and here was someone else who sure does paint a lot of paths!  I came home and painted this on board with oil, instead of paper with soft pastels.  Our "styles" are different.  She has a beautiful, loose, free way with her work.  That is also one of the reasons I wanted to learn from her.  I am always wanting to loosen up, as are most artists I know.  Its wonderful to incorporate a few new techniques or, what I have especially liked are the words that come to me from prior classes.  "What If" came to me with this piece and I started scraping  the blue paint back to the red.  At the end of the day though, when you line a group of paintings up, you will most likely know which painting belongs to which painter.  Mine typically have that contemporary, angular style.

Ocean Series 3, Abstract Seascape by California Janet Bludau

12" x 12"
$250 plus shipping
Oil on Board - Framed or Unframed
4 of this series just sold through a Northern California Gallery.
This piece was unframed so I left it behind in my studio.  I am sorry I did!
Thick and thin paint creates great depth in the painting.  Bits of orange create an added color interest.
Hope you like it!
