Impressionist Colorado Landscape Painting, Fine Art Oil Painting “Burst of Spring” by Colorado Contemporary Fine Artist Jody Ahrens

FRESH OFF THE EASEL

At 9,000 feet, spring comes very late in the year and summer only lasts a couple of months. When spring does finally show up, it bursts forth all at once like a lion’s roar. It’s an artists paradise. Turn in any direction and there is something beautiful to paint.

Neck & Neck by Kay Wyne

Neck & Neck

Oil on 32" x 30" Gallery Wrap Canvas

This painting will go to The Wine Therapist Exhibit(if it is dry enough!)

This painting is fast and furious...lots of color, engergy and movement on the canvas. I wanted the viewer to keep looking at the horses...trying to decide which one is in the lead. It is close. I just finished and signed it today. I hope to put it in Studio Art & Soul's upcoming show. More details on the artists' reception and show. I hope that you had an artful day....I did!

The Inside Track by Kay Wyne

The Inside Track
Oil on Canvas
24" x 30"
I finished this painting. Normally I paint odd numbers of objects or subject matter in my paintings, but four horses seemed to work for me on this canvas. I did have some horses in the background at one time, but decided to blurr the background completely. Initially I had the starting stalls in the background with roof and sky painted in, but I changed my plans. The horse with the green blinker on the inside track is in the lead. This painting conveys the energy, excitement, and competitiveness of the horse race. This painting will be for sale once it dries and placed up at The Dutch Art Gallery in Dallas, Texas. Thanks for viewing this blog. Please contact me if you are interested in this painting that is fresh off the easel!

These black-eyed susans grow wild, along with the honeysuckle and morning glories, just about everywhere around here in the summer. I love ’em! For this painting I started out with a blending of images from two different locations. Visit my blog to see the photos. I used a combination of brush and palette knife technique, with layers of color glazes to spontaneous effects, especially in the foreground.

Here are just a couple of close-up details of today’s painting:

"Love You Like a Sister" Lylas Maddie

This whimsical figure is one in a series I've called "Lylas". I don't have a sister but share a close association with 7 members of Canvas by Canvas and I refer to them as "my sisters" and we often sign our emails with "lylas". One in the group suggested I name the paintings from the group so my list is expanding to family and other friends. This one is named for a family member.
I've painted 4 in a new series for the miniature section (under 14 in.) for the "Preservation is the Art of the City" show September 11-26, 2009 at the Community Arts Center, Fort Worth, TX, free and open to the public. Fifty local artists were juried to exhibit in this show and have the choice to exhibit one or up to 9 paintings each. A portion of the sales will help fund preservation programming for Historic Fort Worth. I hope you can visit the show.
