Mixed Media Abstract Painting, "Sunken Treasure" © Carol Nelson Fine Art

"Sunken Treasure", 30x24 mixed media by Carol Nelson

This painting has some interesting things added to it. The "treasure" is bits of gold colored metal from a necklace, and gold painted wood pieces. Considering the watery appearance of the rest of the painting, it wasn't hard to come up with a title.

I tried something different for the finish on this painting. It has Golden's Self Leveling Clear Gel in a relatively thick layer. I poured it on and spread it around with a brush. The gel "produces a smooth, even, flexible, glossy film of excellent clarity with water and UV resistance." It is very shiny, and certainly easier to work with than smelly varnish.

"Ocean Blue" abstract seascape painting by Carol Nelson

"Ocean Blue"

Some areas of this painting were poured color mixes.  I like the way the colors mingle and create new patterns on their own.  I then did quite a lot of brush work to make things do what I thought was needed.

I have new respect for artists whose work is done primarily using pouring methods.  It is much harder than it looks to come up with something good.

"Oceania", acrylic on paper painting by Lynne Cunningham

"Oceania", acrylic on paper
22" x 15"

available

completed June, 2013

$275. as shown above
shipping included to U.S.A. or Canada

This is a recent large acrylic on paper painting of mine;  a celestial abstract, or a watery abstract!  I decided on the title 'Oceania' because of the beautiful cerulean blue being reminiscent of the oceans.  This painting has a lot of texture and subtleties in the smaller areas of the painting.  Hope you enjoy this!

This painting is shipped protected with foamcore, ready for your matting and framing.  Below is a view of how I usually frame acrylic on paper paintings, in a contemporary wood frame with wide white mat  - this is a preview of the appearance when framed.

Streets of Southport, colorful original oil of north carolina coast landscape by Susan Scoggins - SOLD

It was an unbelievable time in Southport. Water was calm, houses were pristine white as they bathed in the bright spring sun. I set up my easel, loaded one canvas with paint, then loaded another and another. The delicious colors were fresh and simply irresistible.  Go to http://suescoggins.com for more you might like.
