Original Mixed Media/Abstract Painting, "Gypsy Soul", by Colorado Artist, Donna L. Martin

Gypsy Soul

This is my latest mixed media/abstract piece of work, fresh off of the easel.  It has a lot of depth, texture, and many, many layers.  This is unlike what I've done before...a total experiment totally out of my comfort zone!  But, it was so much fun!

This piece is currently available.  Send me an email if you are interested in purchasing or if you have any questions or comments...I would love to hear from you!

"Beauty in the Brokenness", Original Mixed Media Painting by Colorado Artist, Donna L. Martin

Beauty in the Brokenness

“There is nothing beautiful about the wreckage of a human being.  There is nothing pretty about the damage, about pain, about heartache.  What is beautiful is their strength, their resilience, their fortitude as they display an ocean of courage when they pick through the wreckage of their life to build something beautiful, brand new, against every odd that is stacked against them.”  - Nikita Gill

We don’t always see it in ourselves, but beauty truly can come from the brokenness.

This piece was created with layers of paper, paint, and acrylic inks.  I also added some modeling paste in certain areas on the painting, which gives it a bit of raised texture.

This piece is 20 X 20 X 1.5, created on a thick, gallery wrapped canvas.  It is available.  Please email me with questions or comments at:  saltlightwatercolors@yahoo.com

Sitting Pretty by Kay Wyne

Sitting Pretty
12" x 12" Oil on Canvas
Contemporary Floral Still Life
$575
This small painting was completed in the studio yesterday.  I need to sign it and let dry before framing it up.  I had lots of great colors on my palette, and loved playing with the roses, reds, corals, violets and greys.  My intention was to get the palette knife out, but stuck with my flat brush.    I mixed and mixed my colors for this painting, but was careful not to mix them on the canvas, just  putting the paint down, and not going back into it, making each stroke count.   Contact Kay for more info on this small floral arrangement.  Thanks, Kay

Vying For Position by Kay Wyne

Vying For Position
11" x 14" Oil on Linen
Contemporary Equine Painting
This painting is completed after starting it months ago, and putting it aside when I got frustrated with the painting surface.  I used a fine linen, and it didn't have enough tooth or texture.  So I put it away and decided to pull it out earlier this month.  I have been working on cleaning up my work station at the studio, and pulled several painting out that are needing some attention.  Even though this is on a small canvas, I wanted to keep the brush strokes loose, colorful and energetic.  Today is day 25 in the 30 Painting in 30 Days Challenge.  Thanks for looking at this blog...if you have any questions or comments, contact Kay.  KMW

Cock A Doodle Do by Kay Wyne

Cock A Doodle Do
30" x 30" Oil on Gallery Wrap Canvas
Contemporary Roosters and Chickens

Steel gray, icey blue, torrit gray and ultramarine blue with touches of cad red and cad yellow fill this canvas.  These roosters and chickens are colorful and fun, with some loose brush strokes to let the viewer use some imagination.  They are running off the canvas, looking at each other and looking very important.  I did not want to over-paint this one, as I had fun just cutting loose on the colors and then got out the oil sticks for some line drawings.  These fine feathered friends are looking for a new home...contact me if you are interested in this contemporary oil painting.  Thanks for viewing this blog.  Contact Kay for purchasing info.

Covered In Feathers by Kay Wyne

Covered In Feathers
Oil on Gallery Wrap Canvas
30" x 30"Contemporary Rooster and Chickens

Bold brush strokes, bold colors and loose paint complete this contemporary painting.  I enjoyed painting this one...I was exploring the "look" of a french country rooster with my own painterly spin on it.  It all came together after I sectioned off the background colors.  I had a plan, but did not know exactly how it would turn out.  I did not want my colors to get muddy, so I did not over-paint.  I put the brakes on and made every stroke count, trying not to go back into the paint once I laid a color in.  I used three paint brushes, a wide flat, a small flat and a liner.  I hope to get into the studio today and paint for ME!!!  I have a huge commission coming up, and once I get started on that, I won't be painting any roosters.  Thanks for viewing this blog and my art!  KMW at 214-532-0325 or kay@kwyne.com

It is that time of grayness in landscape. Fog covers fields, mud is sticking to the boots, puddles of water and wet coldness in your bones. But my eyes see only beauty and colors. more on SiLa Art
