The Inside Passage This abstracted sunset is filled with colorful snippets and colorful patterns. I began this piece while teaching in the Pacific Northwest and it represented the deep canyons that are lush with flowers and trees. The sky is a rich bronze color and bits of fabric, gold leaf and plaster create incredible texture and depth. This piece will keep you entranced every time you look at it you will find something new.

Framed in a black floater frame. Osiris is my interpretation of the asteroid Bennu. Their is a NASA mission ship called Osiris Rex that has traveled into space carrying images of art, including one of my paintings. It has arrived at the asteroid and is now retrieving samples and will return to Earth.

Contemporary Art, Abstract Landscape “Music in the Trees" by Santa Fe Contemporary Artist Sandra Duran Wilson

A musical score is transferred along with imagery of tree bark. Trees create their own music as the move with the wind. The sounds of trees and the communication between them is a fascinating subject. I am recording sounds of the forest and translating the sounds into music and paintings. This piece is an early exploration into the research.

The Pedernal is a sacred site here in Northern New Mexico. The landscape is embedded in my memories and sometimes they unconsciously pop out. This landscape piece was painted as part of my teaching video on Limited Palettes. I love this size because it can easily sit on a bookshelf or hang on the wall.

Mixed Media Free Standing Sculpture, Abstract Art “Mother Earth“ by Santa Fe Contemporary Artist Sandra Duran Wilson

These sculptures are three dimensional paintings that are free standing and have multiple images depending on the viewing angle. This round piece is a new addition to the collection and I am planning more of various sizes. There are six layers where the waves are painted with liquid mirror and transparent blues and greens. I have drilled into the cast acrylic to make stars appear three dimensional. Interference paints are incorporated and colors shift and change depending on the viewing angle. Side B has a full moon peeking out from the layers of clouds.

You can sense the flow of the water and see the bubbles. They water drops evaporate and float up to the clouds to become raindrops and rejoin the waves below. Discovery 2 is inspired by the galaxies and stars I see when gazing through a telescope. These images translate to music and colors in my mind. I have synesthesia and the frequencies translate to colors and numbers. I love to explore moving the paint around and it feels like the frequencies meet and dance within the paint. Discovery 1 is an acrylic painting mounted on wood panel. It is inspired by images from the Hubble telescope. When I listen to music, I see moving fields of color and this combined with the galactic inspiration led to the creation of Discovery 1. Framed in a black floater frame.
