Face Blue for Hale Abstract

"Face Blue for Hale"
original clay engraving with color
sealed, ready to hang
7" x 5"

Thesaurus says "hale" is an adjective. yes...
....fair weather and a hale crew healthy, fit, fighting fit, well, in good health, bursting with health, in fine fettle, strong, robust, vigorous, hardy, sturdy, hearty, lusty, able-bodied; informal in the pink, as right as rain. antonym unwell.
hale 1 |hāl|
Webster's dictionary says. . .
(of a person, esp. an elderly one) strong and healthy : only just sixty, very hale and hearty.
ORIGIN Old English , variant of hāl [whole.]
hale 2
verb [ trans. ] archaic
drag or draw forcibly : he haled an old man out of the audience.
ORIGIN Middle English : from Old French haler, from Old Norse hala.

I'M IN love with this word. Last night we had lightening and thunder. Today a sudden rain storm that turned to hale. Fitting and put me in the mood to draw this face.

"Sunflower Tuxedo Cat"
original watercolor
9"x12"
He was born in a sunflower and he goes back there from time to time to take a rest from his busy schedule. He likes to pontificate, deliberate, and promulgate.
He's just a cool, tuxedo cat who knows that blue and yellow go good together.

4 Crows Mosaic by Naquaiya

"Four Crows Mosaic"
miniature work, mosaic series
6" x 4"
Essdee Scratchboard Panel
Every day I feed the crows. If I'm a little late, I hear about it. Sure they like bread, but the also enjoy cat food left for cats, who, if aren't fast enough, get duped by the crows. Crows count, they talk and they are intelligent. This mosaic miniature series is giving me ideas to do this in bigger oils. Early influences of religious art are definitely at play here.

El Día de los Muertos by Naquaiya

"El Día de los Muertos"
original oil on gallery wrapped canvas
12" x 16" x 1 1/2"
$200 + $10 s/h
From my pain and sorrow comes a joy of remembering. I lost many wonderful, beautiful horses over the years. Some were in their prime and some were aging. I call to them from joy and speak to the lovely memories they have given me. I entice them with a carrot and secret plans to bridle. The Cactus dance at the sight of them as they gallop over the landscape towards me. The mountains glow with excitement. Shall we trail off to the horizon with the moon at our backs? We will be together again; as it was in the best of times.

To read more about the Day of the Dead, this is a nice link that explains some of the customs and origins.

Mandala Face Summer

Mandala Face Summer
original gouache on pastel paper
11" x 8"
I'm loving these summer days and the weather is so superb I shiver at the thought that it may end soon. Every day has been glorious--sun, big sky, beautiful blue, clouds, sailboats, fishing along the river, festivals and sandals. The air is by contrast crisp and refreshing. This mandala speaks of summer to me. Perhaps it will talk to you. When I sit down with my paper and colors, it's a very theraputic process. Mandalas heal.
