I've been busy in the studio! First getting ready for and hosting an Open Studio event, and then setting up the studio again for a week of focused private instruction with my student.   Topics covered were the color wheel, color mixing and color theory, and one of my favorite topics - "Nature in the Abstract" -- so many resources to be found in the world of nature for ideas on Abstract paintings.

My student found me through my website; emailed me; we spoke by phone a few times and I suggested subjects we'd cover and places to stay - she flew in from the East Coast. I supplied all the materials and she brought her favorite brushes .  Painting in my studio was very comfortable for the 2 of us, and it must have been truly inspiring for her; my student had a huge breakthrough in painting!  See the results of the personalized workshop here:

The color scheme just came about from playing with paint . . . it includes my favorite saturated deep orange (vermilion), the ochre and the cobalt violet - pink.  A small piece that would heighten the color in any small space!  This textured acrylic painting is on deep cradled panel with beautiful natural wood sides, ready to hang.  The painting is signed on the back, and is protected with a coat of matte varnish.

"Days Can't be Like the Nights" is a little abstract in acrylic paints on archival panel.  This one is serene in the composition, and active in the amount of texture in the painting with the varied color palette and layers.  This small painting is sized to fit a standard sized frame.

These small paintings will be shown at the Jack London Square Artists, participating in East Bay Open Studios.  Our popup show of 45 artists at the former Barnes and Noble location at Jack London Square in Oakland, CA will be open the first two weekends in June. "Despite the Heat" is a little abstract in acrylic paints on archival panel.  I love working on these little compositions and trying to get a 'big painting' look in a small piece; lots of texture and varied color and layers. I've always enjoyed working in acrylic on smaller sizes. 

The weather is flipping from record heat, to winter-like storms.  The heat was last week and this helps warm me up to view it! These small abstract paintings can be anything you personally see in it - - a field of grass, an abstract landscape, or a painting solely about pure color and design.  This is sized to fit a standard sized frame.
