"IGNITION POINT" 10168

 I love this painting.  Remember my torch experiments from last week?   Well, here's what I created with three of the metal foil sheets I burned with my butane torch.  I just LOVE trying new things and this turned out really cool.

This is how it started

 After burning the foil pieces, I glued them to this 30x15 canvas.  It's hard to see in a photo, but I made the corners lift up using clear acrylic gel.

There's a site called photofunia.com where you can upload photos and do fun things with them.  I took this painting and manipulated the image so it looks like three paintings in a store window.  Fun, fun.

This 36x24 abstract almost went in the trash.  I kept working on it and it just seemed to get worse - see my blog for progress photos taken at different stages.  Finally, in an act of desperation, I painted over most of it with a red glaze.  That seemed to do the trick, because I like the final look.
There is aluminum and gold metal foils, and metallic acrylic paints which impart a warm glow to the painting.  Those little bits of turquoise and green complimentary colors add pizazz I think.

"COLORS OF MUSIC - RED"

This abstract collage was a piece I did for my Creating with Acrylics class.  I was showing them how to put together several collage elements in an abstract design using a limited palette. I used acrylic modeling paste, prepared tyvek, sheet music, micaceous iron oxide, red aluminum foil, nails, brads, and various acrylic paints on this piece.

This one happened to have a piece sheet music in the collage - voila! - a new series is born.  More "COLORS OF MUSIC" to come.


This painting is mounted on a textured support and (will be) covered with epoxy resin.  I have photographed it BEFORE the epoxy has been applied.

This is another in the aspen leaf series.  I took the photo before I put on the clear epoxy resin layer because it is easier to photograph without the shine of the epoxy.

This painting is a diptych with each panel measuring 40x12. There is a bold, textured grid section on each panel. The dramatic colors and dynamic composition reminded me of the energy and excitement that is found in New York City.
Thoughts of 9-11 did not guide me in the creation of this piece, but after it was completed, I can see how such memories could be brought to mind.
I had difficulty photographing this piece with all it's metallic passages. There are gray-blue areas in the lower sections that appear black in the photo.
