This is a mixed-media experimental abstract painting (colored pencil, graphite, acrylic, collage papers, stamping etc.) on gessoed illustration board.

I love these type of abstract paintings (that one builds up in layers) because as an artist they let you create something that's pleasing purely from a color or textural or symbolic viewpoint. And hopefully, in that rather selfish process, the viewer will also enjoy the creative discovery.

"Blue Zephyr" by A.B.Deneweth

This is an abstract southwestern landscape inspired by a trip to Taos. I wanted to play shapes and color and some added texture of gold leafing. I love adding a touch of metallic to paintings, but as many artists know it can be a bit tricky to photograph. It almost always look better in person. That being said, I think you can still get the idea that it adds some "bling" to the landscape.

Strawberry Fields by A.B.Deneweth

This abstract painting was inspired by listening to the Beatles and Asian symbols--somehow the two just seemed to "come together" (no pun intended) for me. The Beatles have obviously been in the news a lot lately and in just about another week or so is Lennon's birthday (October 9). Last year I started a tradition to do a Beatles title painting that week and am looking forward to that again this year.
