"Her Secret Garden"
Happy Halloween everyone! Like many abstract painters, I love to incorporate a variety of symbols into my work and I particularly enjoy mixing Western and Eastern symbols as I've done hear with hearts and Chinese calligraphy symbols representing peace, harmony, the elements, etc.
This abstract painting was inspired by listening to the Beatles and Asian symbols--somehow the two just seemed to "come together" (no pun intended) for me. The Beatles have obviously been in the news a lot lately and in just about another week or so is Lennon's birthday (October 9). Last year I started a tradition to do a Beatles title painting that week and am looking forward to that again this year.
This oil and acrylic abstract with gold leaf accents was part of my Feng Shui abstract series which attempts a positive energy balance of the five elements: water, earth, air, fire, and wood--either with color, texture, or movement.
Each year I look forward to creating a painting for a local non-profit auction event with a red/heart theme. In this piece, I combined the mystery of Asian calligraphy with more conventional Western symbols. This painting was SOLD, but commissions are always welcome.
This is a smaller piece from my series of layered transparent acrylic abstracts with natural stampings and Asian characters. Alcohol and plastic wrap techniques also add to the texture. 
This is a layered acrylic painting that includes stamping with actual leaves and other found objects. I created this abstract for a non-profit auction that had a "butterfly" theme. I think luna moths have one of the most interesting shapes in nature.
