Contemporary Abstract Mixed Media Painting 30/30 Challenge "Sunset Poppies" by Intuitive Artist Joan Fullerton

   FRESH OFF THE EASEL....

This unfinished painting with a plaster border has been around the studio for a couple of years. Today I freshened the color, defined the shapes and simplified the background. My test as to whether it is finished, is: "Would I hang it?" My answer...was yes.

Mixed Media Assemblage Painting 30/30 Challenge "Release" by Intuitive Artist Joan Fullerton

   FRESH OFF THE EASEL....

Day 28 of Leslie Saeta's 30 Paintings in 30 Days art challenge, I finished a shadow box collage that I began months ago with my private art student. Incorporating part of a Taos Mountain watercolor, photo of a Raven, iron grill work, and found objects, the theme of "release", "letting go" emerged.

POETIC BLUES #1 AND #2 Abstracts by Sally Fraser

POETIC BLUES #1    by Sally Fraser
Mixed Media, acrylic on panel, no frame needed.  Various shades of blues.

POETIC BLUE #2   The second in a series of blue, textured acrylic art on a panel. At a recent art show, several people said they saw seahorses of horse heads in these abstracts. Perhaps that's the essence of abstracts to see many things that were not intentional.  There are many layers involved in these paintings. Take the time to really look and you will see why others will be captured by them.

"Go Ask Alice" by Colorado Mixed Media Artist, Lisa Eisenhardt

To sleep is to dream for me, I always have dreams. I had a dream that I fell into this painting and the next day I put the rabbit in because the dream reminded me of Alice in Wonderland. I used Golden gel mediums and metallic paints for this mixed media painting.

"Billboard 1" mixed media abstract collage painting by Carol Nelson

"Billboard 1"

This started out with me trying to remove some collaged papers from a wood panel using a razor blade and sand paper.  The paper that remained stuck on the panel suddenly presented itself as an artsy possibility.  You always have to be on the lookout when you're deconstructing a collage for new unplanned accidents.

I decided to work with what I had. I did a little stamping, and a little painting, and voila!

Happy by Kay Wyne

Happy
18" x 18" Mixed Media
Contemporary Floral Abstract
Acrylic, paper, crayon on Birch Panel
Happy colors and texture make this panel interesting and fun.  I played with some new hand-made papers.  I was not sure that I would like the birch panel since I usually paint on canvas.  But I liked it and had fun with it.  Contact Kay for purchasing information....thanks, Kay

"E4" mixed media textured geometric abstract by Carol Nelson

"E4"

There are five visual and tactile texture elements in this geometric abstract:  the backwards "E" and the "4" are raised, stenciled characters; the face is a collaged, oversized, FAKE $20 bill; the grid is a piece of black fabric; the corrugated swirl paper (green); and a page out of a puzzle book I bought at the Dollar Store (red).

Forest Wonders 4
I love including these mixed media tree paintings in my workshops.  The color combinations are endless, because in my world the trees are vibrant.

Students do very well with these.  This is one of the workshops I will be teaching at Art of the Carolinas on November 7, 2013, in Raleigh, NC.

"LADY G" 11034, daily painter original textured portrait collage © Carol Nelson Fine Art

"LADY G"

I named this painting LADY G after Lady Gaga.  It doesn't really look like her, but the flamboyant hair and outfit looks just like something you would see Lady Gaga wearing.

The painting has the everything plus the kitchen sink.  Many different mediums, including gel "skins" for the facial features, and lots of texture.

This painting will replace the one I brought to Brushstrokes Gallery in Denver for the Artists of Colorado Show.  The original painting, Canyon Colors, sold before the show opened.  Woo-hoo!

"ICE AGE", daily painter mixed media geologic abstract © Carol Nelson Fine Art

"ICE AGE"

I was talking to someone about this painting the other day.  It's hanging in the entry area of my home. She said that the image on my website really doesn't look like the painting does in person.  She was so totally correct.

I remember the trouble I had photographing this painting because it has subtle metallic sheen in some areas.  Look at the difference between the two images.  The top photo was taken with natural lighting, and the  two views below were taken in my studio under artificial light.
I bet any photographers reading this are just cringing. :-)
