French artist and writer, Jean Cocteau once wrote: "I love cats because I love my home and after a while they become its visible soul."

That's definitely true of my painting studio and in this particular painting, I wanted to express this cat's soul through saturated color in this abstract cat oil painting. It's one of my favorites and am told he watches over the dining room of the family who purchased him.

One of the toughest things, I think, when painting the figure from the live model is selecting the best angle for your final painting, here, I noticed her shadow making an heart shape on the wall and I knew immediately that's what I wanted to capture.

Cats make great models especially when the are sleeping. While I've personally never been much of a napper, there's just something about that circular, curled napping shape that's so relaxing.
