Contemporary Still Life, "Mom's Eyeglasses," by Amy Whitehouse

Pastel, 6"x8" $75

This still life of eyeglasses represents
a challenging pastel exercise:
count your strokes and finger smudges, keeping
the number to 100 or fewer.
The purpose of the exercise is to spend more time
observing than painting,
in order to make each stroke of the paste count
and be the right, correct stroke the first time.
No erasures or corrections allowed!

Contemporary Still Life, "Bud," by Amy Whitehouse

8" x 10" Oil, $175

This contemporary floral is dramatic
in its simplicity.
I enjoyed striking a balance between
a simple glass vase
and a richly colored, textured iris bud.
The neutral background
allows the flower to enjoy all the attention.
One might say the bud is a drama queen.

A Peek Into My Studio.....

A few summers ago, we remodeled our basement and I was able to create a painting studio.  It’s wonderful.  The key is the lighting.  I put in a fluorescent cloud light, bucket lights, and track lighting with cool and warm bulbs.  It’s very bright and my eyes do not get tired.  I can make a mess and no one bothers me!  Before this, I painted in our kitchen, which was great, but I always had to clean up for dinner.  Here’s a  couple of photos of my new studio.
There’s also a lot of counter space and a sink!

Tight Bunch by Kay Wyne

Tight Bunch
20" x 20" Oil on Gallery Wrap Canvas
Contemporary Still Life Painting
I picked up a couple of bunches of hydrangeas at Trader Joe's this week and set up a simple still life.  We were hosting Karen Blair - contemporary artist from Virginia, at the studio and this floral arrangement came in handy, as almost all the artists painted it.  I chose not to use any medium on this painting because I wanted a thick painterly look on the canvas.  It will take a long time for the oils to dry!  Here is a close-up:
Thanks for taking a peak at this painting.  "Tight Bunch" is drying at the studio, but will be looking for a new home in the near future.  Thanks, Kay

Contemporary Abstract Still Life Eggplant Painting "ONE NOTE (A.K.A. EGGPLANT JAZZ)" by Contemporary Realism Artist Carol A. McIntyre

Musical instruments and symbols have informed my paintings throughout my career. I thought is was a good time to have it re-surface in my "Window Within a Window" series. And because I am known for a sense of humor, I wanted to combine the two.
What are your reactions to this funky painting? Isn't an egg plant a fun veggie to play with? Enjoy!
Recently a 7 year old asked, "Is that a fairy house?" Of course it is! :)

Passionate Petals by Kay Wyne

Passionate Petals
24" x 24" Oil on Gallery Wrap Canvas
Contemporary Still Life Painting
There was a paint challenge that I participated among friends, and "Passionate Petals" was my contribution.  Each artist who participated were given the same image, but could choose the medium and size of the art.  Watercolor, mixed media, oils, and even digital art was shown and critiqued.  My painting is on a 24" x 24" canvas.  I took artistic liberties and changed several things to make the painting more interesting.  This painting is drying at the studio.  Contact Kay Wyne for purchasing info.  Thanks, Kay
