This has been an awesome 12 days sharing the art with you and finishing up sending out this last of the 12 paintings next week.   Sometimes we need a surprise in life that brings us a sense of comfort or excitement. I had it two weeks ago when I received an unexpected gift from a collector that needed a painting for a really special specific situation and budget was critical. I meet their needs, sent the work and was totally amazed when I received a check in the mail for four times the amount I had asked for.  It gave me pause to think, how in a small way I could make give back to my followers. When I was in the studio a day later, I knew it would be to gift out some of the paintings from the year that I had not sold.  They were small pieces with just a few large ones, but I hope they will bring some special joy to the chosen recipients.

Mary was chosen by God... and her surprise was not something she expected, nor was it something she was ready to handle. Her trust was solid, and her willingness to follow God in His plan was evident. She faced a huge risk, but knew He would take care of her. His plan was the way, the only way.

Mary was greatly troubled at his words and wondered what kind of greeting this might be. But the angel said to her, “Do not be afraid, Mary; you have found favor with God. You will conceive and give birth to a son, and you are to call him Jesus. Luke 1:29-31

15 JUMP Summer Herd 2013 Contemporary Horse Paintings by Texas Artist Laurie Pace

© G.O.D. Laurie Justus Pace      Graphics One Design 2013

5 x 7 inches Oil on Canvas Board

Beginning with the mauve purple color, I again moved from corner to corner complimenting one side with Red and the choosing something NOT expected...white running into the mauve.  There was an area between the red and mauve and that became Orange. I flipped the canvas around several times before I knew where I was with this contemporary horse painting.

Do not love the world or anything in the world. If anyone loves the world, love for the Father is not in them. For everything in the world—the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life—comes not from the Father but from the world. The world and its desires pass away, but whoever does the will of God lives forever.  1 John 2:15-17

14 In a Hurry Summer Herd 2013 Contemporary Horse Paintings by Texas Artist Laurie Pace

© G.O.D. Laurie Justus Pace      Graphics One Design 2013

5 x 7 inches Oil on Canvas Board.

Corner to corner I laid up the yellow to Orange diagonally across the canvas. Then I mounted the blues and turquoise next.  There was actually a small horse running on here and it did not carry the strength I was after, so it became this horse... In a hurry to arrive. Stretching and Reaching out to arrive.

Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice! Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near.  Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:4-7

Our relationships in life have colors to me.  The calm ones are in soft blues and raspberries and the intense ones are filled with these colors. Maybe people can be described by color as well. I know your mood varies, but what color are you as a person?  I have been a violet/purple most of my life, but recently have leaned into the deep dark rich reds.

God is good filling us with the 'colors' we need for the day.

Join together in following my example, brothers and sisters, and just as you have us as a model, keep your eyes on those who live as we do. For, as I have often told you before and now tell you again even with tears, many live as enemies of the cross of Christ.  Their destiny is destruction, their god is their stomach, and their glory is in their shame.Their mind is set on earthly things.  But our citizenship is in heaven. And we eagerly await a Savior from there, the Lord Jesus Christ, who, by the power that enables him to bring everything under his control, will transform our lowly bodies so that they will be like his glorious body. Philippians 3:17-21

© G.O.D. Laurie Justus Pace      Graphics One Design 2013

8 x 10 inches Oil on Canvas Board

The series continues out of demand and sales.  I am in the midst of a workshop right now but still painting away.
This small 8 x 10 contemporary Horse Painting has several layers of thick oil paintings carving out its surface. The Pair are two evenly matched ponies raising dust in their run.  A fun day with a fun get away.

I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus. Philippians 3:14

Color Fast Contemporary Horse Paintings by Texas Artist Laurie Pace

© G.O.D. Laurie Justus Pace      Graphics One Design 2013

Color Fast in Progress
24 x 30 inches Mixed Media on Canvas.

So far it is just acrylic piling on in layers.  Took the colors on the palette out a different door for me too.  Red is pretty strong and tying it in with orange is almost out of the ballpark...

At this point I was really getting worried on direction again and a bit hesitant that I might have a throw away or give away painting.

Watch for the final painting tomorrow.

Downhill Horse Painting by Texas Artist Laurie Pace

© G.O.D. Laurie Justus Pace      Graphics One Design 2013

Downhill, no doubt.
24  x 30  inches Oil on Canvas.

Terry told me the first rule in Italian car racing is never look back.  I thought about this as I found these three beauties in the paint, one definitely looking back.  I would be falling flat on my face running downhill and looking back.  Still not sure if I am done, but I think I am close. There is always this feeling of not wanting to touch it... but I will wait one more day.

Final Stretch Horse Painting by Texas Artist Laurie Pace, Abstract Horse Paintings

© G.O.D. Laurie Justus Pace      Graphics One Design 2013

Final Stretch
24 x 36 inches Oil on Canvas. In progress for South Hill Gallery, Lexington, KY.

Another in the Advantage Series Horse Paintings and another 10 tubes of paint.  Not quite done but this one is closer than the one I posted two days ago.  With the new studio I have room for multiple easels and paintings going at one time.  I love the new space and the horse paintings are loving it too.

We had a friend from high school, Lee Small, who owns Lee Small Gallery, and she is an interior designer, come by last week and help with our home colors and some ideas as we get started on adjusting this home to 'us'.  I am a bit surprised on some of the colors with the intensity and depth but I am game!

Lee's gallery has the work of some incredible artists. You might want to stop by her site.

Weathering the Storm
30 x 30 inches Oil on Canvas. In Progress

This is about 8 hours in and still not sure of direction but I am loving the palette colors chosen for this horse painting. I began with the orange paint, then the soft turquoise, then the blues... after that came quinacridone golds, purples, lavender and brown pink.

The personality is beginning to develop.

My studio is downstairs and my computer is upstairs... so progress shots are as good as it gets.  This is in progress right now in the Advantage Series.  Color is not good in the shot as we have had cloudy foggy days... watch for updates on Colors of the Wind Horse Painting.
