"Happy Sunflowers" plein air painting by Kate Dardine

"Happy Sunflowers"
10x10 oil on gallery-wrapped canvas

I painted these sunflowers during an excursion to the Lyon's Farmette in Lyons, Colorado. The Farmette sits on 4.5 acres, about half of which is dedicated to gardens. These happy sunflowers waving in the sunlight on a hot summer morning caught my eye.

"Moose on the Loose" contemporary wildlife painting by Colorado artist Kate Dardine

The interesting thing about Moose, as I've discovered from encounters with the Moose in the mountains of Colorado and Yellowstone Park, is how quickly and gracefully this huge animal can move. And how silently it can pick its way through the willows - one might pass by you only a few feet away and you might never even hear it. When in the presence of Moose, one can't help but respect the power of this animal. Even so, they are a bit goofy looking!

"Cardinal Rules" contemporary abstract bird painting by Colorado artist Kate Dardine

Cardinal Rules
4x5" oil, framed

Growing up in Connecticut, these fanciful birds were frequent visitors to our backyard bird feeder. The males especially seemed pretty sure that all the other birds should get out of their way when they arrived to dine on sunflower seeds. Hence the title, "Cardinal Rules." Living in Colorado, I don't get to see these red beauties very often - have to travel east to Iowa for that! Available through the Link Gallery, Cheyenne, Wyoming.

"Sunrise, Sunset" Contemporary Barn Painting by Kate Dardine

This painting found new life...it started out as a painting I did several years ago, which I liked, but was never quite satisfied with. I decided to revisit the painting and see what I could do to make it more compelling. Read my blog to see how the painting looked before and the journey to its new incarnation. Gallery wrapped with painted edges.
