"Cardinal Rules" contemporary abstract bird painting by Colorado artist Kate Dardine

Cardinal Rules
4x5" oil, framed

Growing up in Connecticut, these fanciful birds were frequent visitors to our backyard bird feeder. The males especially seemed pretty sure that all the other birds should get out of their way when they arrived to dine on sunflower seeds. Hence the title, "Cardinal Rules." Living in Colorado, I don't get to see these red beauties very often - have to travel east to Iowa for that! Available through the Link Gallery, Cheyenne, Wyoming.

"On the Wire" abstract bird painting by Kate Dardine

Painting #22 of my Painting a Day project. I experimented with this painting- I tried a new ground to paint on - canvas mounted on a panel, which is then mounted on a wooden "frame" which gives it almost a 3/4" profile. The other "new" thing is the perspective; I've been concentrating on close-ups, this one shows birds in the distance.

I see birds sitting on telephone and electric wires all the time, and love the pattern they make silhouetted against the sky.

"On the Wire" is a 4x4" oil on Ampersand panel. Click here for purchase info.
