This painting started with a photograph taken by my husband years ago.  I liked the road, and the hint of flowers along the countryside.  I don't know where the photo was taken, but I took my artistic license and changed the colors, but wanted the long road to disappear into the horizon.  The color palette is somewhat toned down for me...but I enjoyed experimenting with the lavenders, magentas and olive greens.  Thanks for looking at this blog...Contact me if you have any questions or comments.  This painting is for sale...and needs a new home.  Thanks, Kay

This abstract went through alot of changes before it was completed. When I started it, I was using a totally different color scheme and did not know I was going in this direction. I applied layers and layers of color...there is alot of movement and depth in this abstract. I used both the brush and palette knife on this one. Lines, shapes, color and texture...it is all on this canvas. I really like this size canvas...it hangs well above a piece of furnture or tilted up against the wall, sitting on a table or cabinet. This is one of my very first stabs at mixed media.  It started in a workshop, and then I completed it in the studio.  I had used images of some of our favorite places in New Mexico, and because of the subject matter and colors my husband John really liked this piece and it hangs in our home office.

Here is a close-up, as you can see there is a lot going on.  Fabric, torn paper, crayons, confetti paper, old map, paint and images of New Mexico cover the canvas.  I was visiting with another artist the other day, encouraging her to try mixed media..... so this post is for Susan.  Susan is a photographer with a wonderful portfolio.  The possibilities are limitless for some new work, maybe mixed media, using altered photographs.  I found some wonderful papers and images the other day, and it was kind of putting me in the mood to tackle another mixed media piece.  I always have my oils out, so pulling out the acrylics and mixed media supplies always shakes things up.  Thanks for looking at this blog and the art posted here.  Have a great day.....Kay

This abstract was sold yesterday to a collector in Minnesota.  My day was kind of jumbled with errands, when Al called to see if I had some abstract aspens.  He had seen my art at the Omni Hotel Convention Center in Dallas.  So before Al and his sweet rescue dog hit the road, he came to the studio and purchased this painting.  It will be traveling to Eden Prairie, MN as a gift to his friend, Scott.  Thanks for your interest in my art, Al.....I hope my painting makes Scott smile.  Kay

There are many shapes, colors and images in this contemporary abstract. The viewer's eye doesn't rest while looking at this painting....My inspiration for this painting was a dragonfly that John Wyne found in our yard...I guess you could say that I have started collecting dragonflies since I have a total of four. They are very interesting creatures. The picture below is a close-up of the dragonfly.

This contemporary abstract is finally finished. I had started it about six months ago and it was one of those paintings that I did not feel like it was complete. I kept adding lines, shapes and color. The wings of the dragonfly disappeared into hard edges and angles. I used thick, juicy oils and applied them with wide brushes and palette knives.
