"Moon Window" was painted immediately after I painted "The Blue Beyond." I had been wanting to paint moonscapes for a long time and finally the idea caught up with me. Surprisingly, the first layer of this painting was various reds and this underpainting provides the glow. Most people would not expect reds and orange-reds to be the colors to use to set off the moon light, yet it does provide the depth. It is also interesting to see how these warm colors set the stage to rest of the painting. What are your reactions to the reds?
