Expressionist Landscape, Mountains, Cottage,Red Horse,“The Second Time Around” by Oklahoma Artist Nancy Junkin

Recently, while enjoying a London museum with my son, a landscape painting caught my eye. I loved the colors and feel of the painting! So, when back in my studio, I created my version of the scene. The painting’s name comes from the fact it’s actually painted on the top of an older piece. I often find layering a new piece over an existing one very energizing and challenging.

Expressionist Portrait,Figurative, McCartney Family, Maybe I’m Amazed Series “James” by International Abstract Artist Amanda Saint Claire

Contemporary Art

Three years ago I started a passion project I call "Maybe I'm Amazed" as a tribute to Linda McCartney.  Linda was often ridiculed by the entertainment industry despite have achieved success as a photographer prior to her marriage to Paul by being the first female to land a Rolling Stones cover with Eric Clapton, and yet Linda did not live in her famous husband's shadow, she shared it.

As an artist, the key to joy and success for me, is always being aware of the WHY.  Why am I making a particular painting or series of paintings?   This series comes directly from my heart as their music and their relationship filled me with hope during a very lonely childhood.  My intention all along has been to gift these paintings to her family in her memory but even if that does not happen the joy has been in the creation as I've been able to experience gratitude and whimsy. With each piece I have attempted to capture an element of the personality from their children with Linda appearing in each as a red horse.  The compositions are based on compilations of Linda's original photographs. There are also two unfinished pieces that will be forthcoming that represent Linda and Paul. These are unique in my body of work both in composition and style and yet they scream Saint Claire as they are truly so personal to me.

I had hoped that I would have all 6 paintings ready by today, but as John Lennon said, "Life is what happens when you are busy making other plans."

Expressionist Portrait,Figurative, McCartney Family, Maybe I’m Amazed Series “James” by International Abstract Artist Amanda Saint Claire

Contemporary Art

It was twenty years ago this week, but Sgt Pepper wasn't teaching the band to play on March 17, 1998, instead  lovely Linda died in her husband's arms and the world lost a beautiful soul, caring mother, earth and animal advocate, celebrated photographer, and musical muse.  Linda Eastman McCartney spent 29 years at the side of Paul McCartney singing and composing music with him and raising their four beautiful children when at the age 56 she lost her fight with breast cancer.

"Fired Up!" 16"x20"x1.5" textured acrylic- $550.00

I am addicted to color- all color- though yellow I can only take in small doses, but it does have it's place and uses. I prefer my yellows to be in the earthy range, like yellow ocher and raw sienna for y golden horses. There are times a color combination captures  my attention and I repeat it to gather up as much energy from it as I can. Such was the case with this painting. It started with #60 in the summer series, was repeated in "Eternal Flame" (posted two blogs ago) and now here it is again in "Fired Up!". This one is heading to NY for the EQUINE! festival to be on display there. I know there are artists who's work encompasses just a limited pallet, and I don't know if I could do that- I like to use all the colors to express myself- for mood, emotion, and aura. My favorite color is magenta purple, but I don't use it that often to paint with. My niece just got married September 5th and her color chosen for the wedding was purple. I was so thrilled! I often wonder- why does one certain color or blend of colors appeal to people? Why do we have those preferences? With my art, I'm bound to touch on favorites since I love the whole color wheel.

"Eternal Flame" 20"x20"x1.5" textured acrylic- $600.00

The 60 series is over, but it's influence has remained with me. It's challenging to come up with so many paintings in so little a time frame, but I like the playfulness of doing them, and also, the creative stretch and digging deep to tap the well. Several of the paintings really spoke to me once done, and I've already created one large painting I'll be showing soon, but this one I am particularly pleased with, inspired by the series finale #60. The turquoise is so alive and dancing, I felt like I was creating super hot flames. A few names floated around in my head, but I settled on "Eternal Flame". I've added a side by side photo so you can see the comparison of the two. "Eternal Flame" is 20"x20"x1.5" textured acrylic gallery wrap canvas and offered for sale direct from me for $600.00 + shipping.

Next I'll post about another series inspiration that will be shown in NY at an equine festival. That will be in a day or two. Jonelle
