Wild Blue by California artist Brenda York

30x24" oil on canvas, available

This is one of my newest pieces and a little different direction--just a little different. In a constant effort to loosen up I recently started playing with oil bars. You really can't be very exacting when you apply color with oil bars. They are like using those chunky crayons when you were a little kid with those teeny tiny hands. So you just have to get over yourself and cut loose. I like the messiness and the roughness they add to the linear parts of this painting. Coloring inside the lines definitely not advised!

If you are interested in this painting shoot me an email. It's brand new and not even up on my website yet.

Mismatch by California artist Brenda York

12x12" oil on canvas, available

Funny how things work if you're paying attention. I've been overwhelmed with things lately--personal and professional. All my painting mojo has gone mostly toward three big shows in the past year. Two solos and one group. (Note to self: What was I thinking?)

I've really been anxious to get back to my little daily paintings--such a great way to keep the wheels in motion. Anyway, as I started off this week tying up loose ends, I received an email invitation to join Daily Paintworks. Can't tell you how thrilled I am about this! This online gallery features the work of the cream of the crop Daily Painters. Take a peek at the website. Every single piece is hands-down gorgeous. Wow! I feel so honored to be in their company. Thank you Carol and David Marine for the vote of confidence. My work will be on Daily Paintworks in a few days and in the meantime, you will find me (and my mojo) happily creating some new paintings to share with you right here.

Dr. Lovelorn by California artist Brenda York

8x6" oil on canvas

I've been away for awhile tending to family needs. And after a stressful time of intense focus on things other than my art and painting, I am finally starting to feel the ol' fire in the belly again. It took a while to ignite the creative juices but I am finding my way back to the easel. And it feels good.

Dr. Lovelorn is my first painting after being MIA for a few weeks and I must say he makes me smile. Hope he finds a new home with someone who also could use a little sniggle!

Little Miss M. Makes Peace With The Arachnid Nation by Brenda York

36x24" oil on canvas

I really had to face my fears in painting this one--I don't have much integrity when it comes to spiders. In fact, I act all girly. Not a pretty sight. But my daughter has convinced me that we should not smash them in an act of pure power over nature. No, we should lovingly catch and re-direct them to the out-of-doors because they were here first. So she and I are spiders re-directors which requires a lot of squealing and flapping of the hands. It's a tough job. So even though this is a painting of Little Miss Muffet, it's also a little bit me. Our secret.
