In the Arms of An Angel Palette Knife Painting by Judy Mackey

"In the Arms of An Angel"
20" x  20" x 1.5", Oil on Canvas

A collector contacted me about a painting I'd done of an Angel Hug and wanted me to do another but with more colors.  This is a colorful version.  I hope she will like it - fingers crossed.

I posted this on facebook and asked for title suggestions and I like the title that I selected.  Others were "Angel Hug", "Colorful Hug".

My palette knife started this painting with shapes of dragonflies, but when I stood back from the painting, I saw images of angels. You can decide what is on the canvas...angels, butterflies, or dragonflies... Thanks for viewing. Kay

Palette Knife Angel Painting by Texas Artist Judy Mackey

"I Know That You Feel Me Somehow"
8" x  8", Oil on Board
Drying on my easel right now.  Yippee!  I am feeling crazy happy right now.  I have a two commissions for "angel walking" paintings!  And the Gallery in Roswell, GA is asking for more angel paintings.  So this one, as soon as it dries is headed to Muse & Co...I like the colors in this one - gray and somber with a punch of yellow/orange in the frock.

Angel with Cowboy Boots - Palette knife painting of angels by Judy Mackey

"You Wear It Well"
10" x  10", Oil on Board
Available for purchase
$300 s/h included

A while back I painted an angel with Cowboy boots on.  On that post someone commented that if she were to have an angel she'd have on pink boots because she is a breast cancer survivor.  With that in mind I painted several angels with pink boots.    This is the third of those angels.  These angels with cowboy boots just seem to have an attitude - I like angels with attitudes.  Angels should have attitudes, they look out for us, afterall....HA! if you read this far - are you tired of reading the same words except for the "third"

I think painting in a series is good especially when you hit upon a good idea - this one because of a comment on one of my angel with cowboy paintings.  So this is the third of a pink boot series.

Walking....Yes, Indeed - Angel with Cowboy Boots - Judy Mackey

"Walking...Yes, Indeed"
10" x 10", Oil on Board

This is a second angel in cowboy boots.  I've received a lot of positive comments on my last boot/angel painting which made me think that I'm not the only one who likes a spunky angel.

Quiet Talk, Angel Palette Knife Oil Painting by Judy Mackey

"Quiet Talk"
10" x  10", Oil on Board

I was looking at my recent inventory of paintings and was thinking,  "I sure have painted a few angel paintings lately".  I have been posting them on Facebook and it has been a pleasant surprise to receive comments and thumbs up on the paintings.  I think Facebook has it's place in seeing what is getting people's attention and what hasn't.

Yesterday I met Isabelle Gautier, a Georgia Artist who blogs on the Daily Painters of Georgia site.  We'd only "met" virtually through emails so it was nice to put a face to a name.  We visited a few Galleries and then had lunch at a French restaurant.  Isabelle is from the Normandy area of France so it was nice going to a French restaurant, ordering wine for lunch.  We talked about our art, ideas on galleries, what venues work for selling art, etc.  It was nice brainstorming and making a new friend.

Angel Thoughts - Palette Knife Oil Painting by Judy Mackey

"Angel Thoughts"
10 x 10 inches, Oil on Raymar Board
Available for purchase.

This particular painting started out with an Angel doing something else and I actually drew the arms up and outstretched but after staring at this piece for a while, I decided to tone down the colors, making it misty and keeping the angel a little closed and pensive.  Sometimes painting over textured paintings is difficult because it's hard to "take away" the textures.  And sometimes the texture works and in this one, I'm hoping it works as there is quite a bit of texture all around.

Angel with Trumpet - A small angel painting Judy Mackey

"Angel with Trumpet"
5 x 5 inches, Oil on Board
Available for purchase.

I've tried my hand at another small angel painting.  I have one very favorite knife to paint with but a palette knife painting at this size requries a smaller one.  So I've been using the Langnickle J-3 for these - it still has enough flex and a good sized tip.  Still, these smaller paintings are a little difficult to paint loose and not just make it into a huge blurr.  Had to use a brush here and there to make sure the colors were where I wanted them to be.

House Angel Palette Knife Painting by Judy Mackey

"For Your Home"
5 x 5 inches, Oil on board, palette knife
SOLD

A Realtor friend had remembered that I'd painted several "house angels" in the past.  I was a Realtor in my past life, actually so house angels seemed an appropriate subject for me.  I had no angels to sell her as they'd all been sold so I painted this little one; the size was her request.

Angel Painting, Palette Knife Angel with Kitty by Judy Mackey

"Angel with Kitty"
6 x 4 inches, Oil on Board
Available
This is a small painting in my angel series. I've done several angels with dogs and was asked to paint some with cats. I tend not to paint in faces but I had a request to paint a face in one of my figurative paintings so as "practice" I painted an "essence" of a face in this one. No real features, I wanted to leave that to the viewers' imagination.
