Figurative Painting of Hands "Threading For Light" by Contemporary Realism Artist Carol A. McIntyre

Candle making & soap making were the two most time-consuming activities for the home (and critical). Using molds or tallow dipping were the two ways of making candles. Women collected the tallow from meat fats, bought the wicking & iron molds, and provided the skill & labor. Significant experience was necessary to be able to make dipped candles because the candle mixture must be just the right temperature for the candle to take another layer of wax. It is interesting to note that each candle had a brightness comparable to our 10 watt bulb and was used mainly for reading & sewing. Their lives in the winter were much darker than ours are today.

Figurative Painting of Hands "IT TAKES RHYTHM" by Contemporary Realism Artist Carol A. McIntyre

Rhythm and hand strength are vital in milking a cow. Milking is one of the many reasons women had such strong hands back in the 1800's. Women and children were often the ones who tended the animals. Cows, chickens, dogs, goats and horses were obviously critical to their survival.

Watercolor Painting, "Wild Horses", by Colorado Artist, Donna L. Martin

Wild Horses

This was an original watercolor painting I did using my favorite colors - blues, purples, and rich golds.  I love the feeling of strength and freedom in Wild Horses!

The original piece is sold, but prints are available in various sizes at:

Watercolor Elephant Painting, "Psychedeliphants", by Colorado Artist, Donna L. Martin

Psychedelephants!

This was a really fun painting to do and has been one of my most popular to date!   Mama and baby taking a stroll together on a sunny morning.   This original watercolor was completed on a lazy Sunday afternoon after a couple of glasses of wine.   Hence, the vibrant colors and textures!

The original piece is sold, but prints are available in various sizes at: http://fineartamerica.com/profiles/1-donna-martin.html
