Expressive Still Live Floral Painting, Colorful Original Flower Art, “SPECIAL OCCASION” by Texas Contemporary Artist Jill Haglund

FRESH OFF THE EASEL

I’m becoming a fan of Paul Cezanne by looking at his work. I love his lines and the way he applies paint to give dimension and shape to an object. This painting is fine in acrylic not oil, and it’s my own color palette, not Cezanne’s, but I added the dark lines— or I should say I kept the dark lines on the black canvas background to make it more dramatic. Since the floral arrangement and fruit plate are duplicated - it has the look of an event table waiting for guests. What event? It can be any event that you’ve attended or that is coming up in your life. Wedding Reception? Baby Shower? What event is coming up in your life soon?

Mixed Media, Contemporary Painting, “Epic and Elegy” by Texas Contemporary Artist Sharon Whisnand

Gesso was applied heavily and randomly on the canvas before painting to add texture and interest. Three colors of paint were used, along with alcohol sprayed and paint moved to give a "ghostly" appearance.

Abstract Art, Contemporary Painting,“LOVE” by Texas Contemporary Artist Sharon Whisnand

Gesso was used to create texture before beginning the painting. Sections of a French love poem were stenciled on, along with marks, a little asemic writing to add interest. A colorful painting with layers of color.

Abstract Art, Contemporary Painting, “Wandering” by Texas Contemporary Artist Sharon Whisnand

An original abstract painting called Wandering. As I looked at this painting I could visualize wandering around through the colors and shapes. These have become some of my current favorite colors.

Expressionism, Contemporary Painting, Mixed Media Art, “Energy” by Texas artist Sharon Whisnand

This is an "energetic" acrylic painting with a lot of texture and color. Sometimes paintings come together easily and sometimes they don't. I love using gesso before beginning a painting for a couple of reasons - to create an underlying texture and to give "tooth" and to scribble or press items into the wet gesso to create underlying patterns. This painting has splatters, colors of turquoise, yellow, orange and a deep burgundy. Drywall tape (the kind with little holes) was used to create additional raised texture, then some heavier acrylic was slung across and dripped down. A very fun and energetic painting was created.
