Contemporary Abstract Landscape Painting "Evening's Keep" by Contemporary Realism Artist Carol A. McIntyre

Colorado's landscape is filled with many different geological formations. This outcropping of rocks was discovered while out 'chasing' the golden aspen leaves one fall. I imagined the sun set and combined it with these rocks.

Note that the perspective is slightly off. Why? How does it make you feel?

"Evening's Keep," was chosen by well-known art critic Brian Sherwin, to be featured in the  FASO Daily Art Show!

Contemporary Abstract Landscape Painting "MOON WINDOW" by Contemporary Realism Artist Carol A. McIntyre

"Moon Window" was painted immediately after I painted "The Blue Beyond." I had been wanting to paint moonscapes for a long time and finally the idea caught up with me. Surprisingly, the first layer of this painting was various reds and this underpainting provides the glow. Most people would not expect reds and orange-reds to be the colors to use to set off the moon light, yet it does provide the depth. It is also interesting to see how these warm colors set the stage to rest of the painting. What are your reactions to the reds?

Contemporary Abstract Landscape Painting"Enchanting Web" by Contemporary Realism Artist Carol A. McIntyre

"Enchanting Web" began as an inspiration from the feeling of a wave and surfing 'down the pike' while being greeted by the serenity of the placid sea. The web idea ~ or net ~ added more intrique to the image the more I painted. My goal is to pull you into the painting ~ to make you stop and dream/think/feel. But the original 'box' felt too confining and I had to integrate the shapes all the way to the edges of the painting.
After all, who wants to stay within a box while out dreaming or surfing life? The colors were chosen to enhance the feeling of fantasy because these colors are not frequently found in nature.

Contemporary Abstract Landscape Painting "Moon Passages" by Contemporary Realism Artist Carol A. McIntyre

"Moon Passages," was inspired by a recent long hike I took through a park in eastern Colorado  called the Painted Mines. Most of clay, sand and stones are white, tan or pink. It is similar to  walking through a shallow canyon. Fascinating formations are everywhere.

The paths are dry creeks, hence I added the driftwood. Also, the full moon seemed to add just  the right touch of mystery to the place. During our hike, we came across many wildflowers.  The white primrose was rare, therefore a lovely surprise to discover on our travels.

Contemporary Abstract Landscape Painting "Lunar Glow" by Contemporary Realism Artist Carol A. McIntyre

A trip to the island of Hawaii provided the inspiration for "Lunar Glow."  Earlier in the year I had started to become enamored with taking photographs of the full moon which I in turn used for reference photos. This calling continued while on Hawaii but required getting up in the middle of the night to take photographs.

I found it surprising that I never needed an alarm clock to awaken 2-3 times a night for 3 nights to take in the quiet and intrigue of the full moon gleaming over the rocky shoreline. At the hour, it was awe inspiring and you could feel a oneness with the world.
Though I used fairly intense colors, do you still feel a sense of wonder and tranquility? What feelings does this painting conjure up for you?

Contemporary Abstract Landscape Painting "KENTE MOON MAGIC" by Contemporary Realism Artist Carol A. McIntyre

"Moonlight Magic with Kente Cloth Patterns," is a commissioned painting for an engineer's office. She wanted very specific elements in the painting, such as: moonlight over the Vernazza, Italy, peninsula, mango tree and mangoes, Kente cloth patterns, a beach and a sense of calm with lots of color. What do you think, did I do it?

Contemporary Realism Landscape Painting "MOONLIGHT SONATA" by Contemporary Realism Artist Carol A. McIntyre

The full moon along the South Platte River in Colorado, was the inspiration for this painting. I arose very early a couple of mornings during the full moon to take in the serenity and mystery of this time of day.

Can you hear the quiet ripple of the river water while imagining the beauty of the full summer moon?

Contemporary Health Care Medical Art Paintings "TRABECULAE" by Contemporary Realism Artist Carol A. McIntyre

Have you ever thought about what your bones look like deep in the interior? Now, what does a healthy or normal bone mass look like versus one that has been impacted by osteoporosis? "Trabeculae," depicts how the healthy bone density on the left can progress to look fragile with bone spaces producing porosity. Logically, it is easy to see why bones break more easily when we loose our bone mass.

Contemporary Health Care Medical Art Paintings "Bone Balance" by Contemporary Realism Artist Carol A. McIntyre

"Bone Balance" was inspired by my continued fascination with the cellular structures in our  body. In  particular, our bones.
To treat our bones well, we must live and eat with balance. Can you find the surprise element  in the  painting? Will it move? If so, where will it go in this maze?

Contemporary Health Care Medical Art Paintings "HAND PORTRAIT OF DR. V" by Contemporary Realism Artist Carol A. McIntyre

Dr. V, chiropractor, commissioned me to paint his hands holding a model of vertebrae. He has been a chiropractor for many years and wanted this painting for his family and children because his hands "are my life!"   Do you see that I have captured the strength of his hands along with his gentle and knowledgeable approach to healing?

Contemporary Health Care Medical Art Paintings "BONE APPETIT!" by Contemporary Realism Artist Carol A. McIntyre

As I continue to explore the concept of bones, this social statement came to my mind late one night. I could not resist. And because I drew the hand and its skeleton many years ago, it seemed appropriate to bring it back into my work.

Hopefully this image will help deter you or others from continuing the addiction to soda.

Would you like a print of "Bone Appetit?" Go to FineArtAmerica.com to purchase the size and substrate (e.g., canvas, acrylic, paper, metal) that meets your needs. Note cards (5x7), throw pillows and phone covers of this image can also be purchased on this site.

Contemporary Health Care Medical Art Paintings "STEADFAST CONSTRUCTION" by Contemporary Realism Artist Carol A. McIntyre

Our pelvis provides us with the center core we need in order to move, stand, sit, run, etc. It also serves as a protector of many of our internal organs. I am inspired by its elegance while being essential to our ability to enjoy life.
Why the marble? What does it make you think of? Life is all about balance. I am using the marble as the reminder that when we maintain a healthy balance our lives are more enjoyable and perhaps increases our longevity.
The marble is also an addition of whimsy and curiosity. Does it make you smile?

Contemporary Health Care Medical Art Paintings "ESSENTIAL CONNECTIONS" by Contemporary Realism Artist Carol A. McIntyre

"Essential Connections" was inspired by my desire to convey that our nervous and skeletal systems work hand in hand. The vibrant color palette was chosen to project that these systems are alive and well in all of us. How do you take care of yours? Doctors of chiropractic are available and eager to assure that we keep our systems aligned.

Contemporary Health Care Medical Art Paintings "Dancing Bones" by Contemporary Realism Artist Carol A. McIntyre

Isn't our pelvis an amazing structure? Then add the hip bones and they create quite an image. In this painting I wanted to convey a sense of dancing or rocking of the hips. Do you feel it?
Once again, the marble is inserted as a surprise element. It represents life's precious balance as well as a little levity.
