Point Gallery is pleased to present new work from local
artists Susan M. Gibbons and Jennifer Davey. The Gallery will host an artist

Jennifer Davey has an almost poetic approach to her paintings,
much like a haiku, there is a minimalist elegance to her compositions.
Through her work she explores concepts of life and death, peace and love, as
they relate to today's society. Her paintings are chaotic yet serene, complex
yet surprisingly straight forward.
Artist Statement
Peace - Love. Words that push, pull and play with our deepest
and purest desires. These concepts inspire yet are sometimes difficult to
embody. In this body of work I explore the ideas of peace and love when
coming to terms with the "wild self" and our life-death-life
nature. The paintings explore these rhythms of life, the rise and fall, and
the push and the pull. Peace and love both integrate and expose, revealing
opportunities to open to life. These paintings are the stories that push our
heart, so as to live a life at peace and in love with ourselves. Ultimately,
building peace in the world is rooted in creating peace within.
Info about Peace Making I and We:
Peace Making I and We was a painting created collaboratively
employing over 140 unique contributions to the composition while it was on
exhibition at the Incite Insight a nationally juried exhibit at The Fort
Collins Lincoln Center from November 21st, 2014 to January 3rd, 2015. Viewers
were asked to finish the following prompts: I create peace by...and I feel
most alive when... The viewers wrote directly on the painting or submitted
comments online. At the end of the exhibit I finished the painting as I would
any other of my paintings. The companion painting, Peace Making I reflects
the personal nature of building peace and the importance of cultivating peace
within.

SUSAN M. GIBBONS
Susan M. Gibbons' encaustic paintings explore the medium in a
raw instinctive manner. Drawing inspiration from Judaeo/Christian theology,
she uses a combination of dirt, wax and pigment to create her primordial
compositions. Using these simple, natural elements she creates her entire
palette, giving her paintings an inherent organic quality.
The Adam Series
Genesis 2:7 - Then the Lord God formed a man
from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the
breath of life, and the man became a living being.
The fire and stirring of creation are in part, the basis for
this body of work. Loosely based on the verse in the Book of Genesis
that describes the formation of the first human, the paintings are a symbolic
representation of the creation of humankind. Using the basic colors
that signify the different hues of the human skin: red, black, brown, yellow,
and white (pink), the work incorporates different colors of dirt to blend and
characterize the union between God, the earth, and humanity.
This series utilizes the medium of encaustic (pigmented bees
wax and damar resin) to further exemplify the tones, splendor, and fragility
of human skin. Natural elements: wax, dirt, pigment are relational to
the properties within the human body that was created from the terrain.
Humans were created from the earth, they will return to it.
The variety and exquisiteness of the myriad hues of the human
skin reflect the breath and imagination of the Creator. Created in the
image of God, the beauty of these colors characterize the beauty of the
various tones of the people of the world.
