When I paint this scene, which I have in several paintings and in various sizes... I always feel like I am there... at the foot of the steps... I feel like I have woken up before everyone else and run down the stairs just in time to see the sun rising in the sky.  The colors vivid and bright on the surface of the water... the boats all calmly tied to their moorings. The flavor of Italy or Tuscany in the balance with the landscape bring adventure to the painting. Are you upstairs in a window looking out, or downstairs at the waterfront watching the day awaken?
