The intense Arizona sun obliterates the lit part of this little
barrel cactus.
The mean spikes were painted with the edge of a palette knife,
and the soft petals with a bristle brush.
I was going for the contrast of the papery, lovely flower
surrounded by the brutal thorns,
and the bright, bright sun
that makes it all such a scintillating scene.
