I read an article recently about painting without the use of solvents. It caught my attention because even odorless mineral spirits can be harmful to an artist's health. The technique calls for combining either chalk dust or marble dust and an oil such as stand oil, walnut oil or linseed oil. The medium lightens the paint without the use of white so the resulting colors are more translucent. Brushes can be cleaned in oil. Drying time is longer so I am working on multiple paintings at one time.
