Threading My Way, an encaustic on board by Hawaii artist Arlene G. Woo


I made this image with melted wax on a 7.5" x 7.5" board.  The encaustic process is a very old method of applying wax with heat.  Experimenting with the hot wax is much like experimenting with watercolor:  you never know exactly what is going to happen.  Too much heat and the wax disappears!  Here is imbedded colored threads in the lower levels and then fused wax on top.
