Multi-layered mixed media on panels

This is one of three recent works that are a little different from my canvas paintings. They are made up of three levels. The back is 3/4'' oak which is stained and varnished in two tones. The middle is on panel, float mounted off the back for a shadow effect. It is painted with palette knives representing earth elements such as water and linear rock patterns. Layers have been applied, scraped, sanded and glazed to give the effects of time and erosion.
The blocks are the third element representing structure in a natural environment. These are carved and gilded with variegated leaf and are 3/4'' thick.
